DURHAM, N.C. -- A small group of boosters and others close to the Duke University lacrosse team has hired President Clinton's former lawyer as part of an aggressive public relations effort to argue that the players did not sexually assault a woman at an off-campus party.

Bob Bennett, a former federal prosecutor and Washington attorney who represented Clinton in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case, is serving as a spokesman for a group calling itself the Committee for Fairness to Duke Families.

Maybe they could repo her implants. They might bring something on Ebay. It was reported in the past week that some DA tried to repo some drug dealer's gold crowns. Had a dentist all lined up to do it until a court stopped it.

The DA is bluffing. Which three of the 40 something players is he going to charge? She ID's one over a week later from a picture. You think any jury is going to believe that?

Jury: (collective noun) A group of twelve people too stupid to get out of jury duty.

Why don't they sue the dancer for everything she's got?

I'm not sure I'd want what she has. It might cost you a lot of money to get rid of it.

1970s but inflation hasn't been that high to escalate the cost of a $1.50 pizza back then to $800. Now, that would be a REAL Chicago Uno's or Due's or Geno;s Deep Dish Pie.

I think they've seen everything she's got and didn't like it. I think that's part of the reason we're having this discussion.

I know my rights and how to assert them. May not be true for others.

You need someone on your side immediately, telling you what to do and what not to do, what to say, and what not to say.

Don't have to worry about this if you simply tell the cops you have nothing to say and tell them to get off your property. It works.

'activists' involved

I heard on the radio, WPTF, this afternoon that Al Sharpton is coming to town this Sunday to address a rally at the house where the incident is alleged to have taken place.

The point is, only guilty people, like Clinton, hire him.

Yeah, and Casper Weinberger.

I am having a hard time hearing the whole rationale that "just because there's no DNA doesn't mean a rape didn't happen." If that's the case....why are men accused of rape getting out of prison SOLELY because DNA results come back negative? Shouldn't those prisoners, based on this DA's rationale, still be incarcerated despite the fact that DNA evidence doesn't match?

The former inmates being released on negative DNA tests are cases where there has been some biological material which only the perpetrator could have left, and DNA testing showed that it was produced by someone other than the former inmate.

Here, there seems to be no DNA evidence at all. While it is possible for there to be a sexual assault without DNA evidence, it does not seem likely that, given the description of the alleged assault by the complainant, this would be a no DNA case if a sexual assault actually occurred.

That is why so many outside experts (other than TV scream queens) understand that the DNA tests blow a huge whole in Nifong's case. This makes Nifong's conduct even a greater travesty.

Obviously when you pay dancers who work for an ESCORT agency 800 bucks...it's not JUST for dancing. These guys saw the socio-political machinations at play...they were very astute to hire Bennett.
The DA has by appearing on various panels with the so-called black community leaders has decided where his bread is buttered. He has to go after these guys, regardless of the outcome.

No, their PARENTS were very astute to hire Bennett although I hope they have lots of money because he probably charges about $800 per hour. The Duke lacrosse team is in BIG trouble and they had better realize it before its too late; the DA reportedly will seek indictments not only against three of its members for rape but also several others for aiding and abetting a Class I felony.
