Dear Friends
The following sample math problem was given to students as part of their final exam at Bellevue Community College in Washington State. I was asked by black students to represent them in this matter. Some of these students attend my church.
I am asking all of you and your friends to e-mail the school at the following e-mail addresses and express your outrage:
Advising@bcc.ctc.edu, tpritcha@bcc.ctc.edu, and amatsumo@bcc.ctc.edu.
The following is the math problem given to the students.
The Problem: Condoleezza holds a watermelon just over the edge of the roof of the 300 -foot Federal Building, and tosses it up with a velocity of 20 feet per second. The height of the watermelon above the ground t seconds later is given by formula h= -16t2 + 20t + 300
a. How many seconds will it pass her (she's standing at a height of 300 feet) on the way down?
b. When will the watermelon hit ground?
If they used this same problems and substituted Condoleezza's name with Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton, there would be mass protest and they would shut the college down. Because it was Condoleezza Rice, they wanted to ignore it until I showed up today.
Please e-mail the college and express your outrage and your support of having me at the table to resolve this issue. I am demanding that the college to do several things to correct the problem.
This is serious. Please do not let me down, I want thousands of e-mails to come from all across the country. A CBS affiliate, KIRO TV did cover this story.
Rev. Wayne Perryman P.O. Box 256 Mercer Island, WA 98040
In furtherance of the request by xzins, are there any other sources for this story, any verifications, or any copies of the test that contained this alleged question?
The media trends are the dead giveaway
I wasn't stating what I believed...I was stating what "they" would say.
Was that another question from the math exam?
I don't think that one's fair.
So what is the answer?
Speaking out and letting the school know that you don't think the question was appropriate can't hurt.
I trust my source is a personal friend of Dr. Perryman whose church members attend the college.

Well, they will get an email from me. This is simply amazing that they would do this. Her name is not common like a Beth. This was intentional and a direct racial slam to our Sec of State.
Rev. Perryman would do better to focus on how many of these black students were able to answer the question correctly, and enlist tutors to help those who could not. They should not be encouraged to get all worked up over imagined "racist" slights. Condi got where she is because she stayed focused on important things, and didn't allow herself to get sidetracked by PC whining campaigns.
Excerpt from my email to the College:
It is extremely offensive to see your college use the name of a prominent black official like our Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in a math problem that uses the racial stereotype of 'blacks and watermelons'. The fact that a 'Federal building' is also mentioned leaves no doubt that the insulting stereotype was directed at her.
In addition, this math problem is an insult to not only Dr. Rice but all black students at Bellevue Community College and especially to those who were required to take this final exam.
She could probably kick him hard enough to generate 20 fps upwards velocity too.
That would be worth a buck or twenty. We could donate the money to the Second Amendment Foundation, since it's well known that she's a supporter of the *individual* RKBA.
Thanks for speaking up. We must not remain silent in the face of such ridicule.
Then don't write......I did!
Silence in the face of an ugly sterotype is not the answer.

BRAVO BUMP
Thanks for posting, Bill....I immediately thought of that horrible cartoon when I read this email.
I perfer to take action myself.......that's why I wrote an email to the College.
Dr. Rice would probably overlook it as you say but this also affects all the black students at the college especially those who had to answer this question!
Just substitute the name 'Martin Luther King' and I think you'll get my drift!
Mr. Perryman is identified as "a fact-finding investigator in discrimination cases for the plaintiff," the link you provided at the start of this thread doesn't appear to have any story at all about the "test" (much less a copy of the test containing the offending question), and I can't locate any other sources for the story.
It'd be nice to see some corroboration.
a. 1.25 seconds
b. 5.00 seconds
