Democrats on Capitol Hill favoring citizenship for illegal aliens say they have been buoyed by the massive rallies across the country, but opponents of amnesty warn that they will ultimately backfire. The gatherings have given backing to lawmakers who want to give a direct path to citizenship for aliens even though polls show most American voters strongly oppose what many call "amnesty." Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat and a leading backer of such legalization bills, invoked civil rights icon Martin Luther King when he spoke at yesterday's rally on the Mall. "They say you should report to deport," Mr. Kennedy said of conservatives and a growing number of union-backed liberals who oppose granting citizenship to illegals. "I say report to become American citizens." These rallies also have turned into Democratic recruitment centers for reaching new voters. They often feature posters and fliers for Democratic candidates, and many include voter-registration booths. At a press conference last month, House Republicans expressed deep anger at the images of demonstrators waving Mexican flags in the streets of Los Angeles and Houston. "I say if you are here illegally and want to fly the Mexican flag, go to Mexico and wave the American flag," said Rep. Virgil H. Goode Jr., Virginia Republican. "All these folks who are here illegally know they can protest brazenly," said Rep. Tom Tancredo, Colorado Republican and longtime proponent of stricter immigration controls. "It's really a mockery of our immigration system." Yesterday, Mr. Tancredo said the protests reveal how powerful illegal aliens have become in the U.S. "Today's rallies show how entrenched the illegal alien lobby has become over the last several years," he said. "The iron triangle of illegal employers, foreign governments and groups like La Raza puts tremendous pressure on our elected officials to

Senator Kennedy ''bitterly'' opposed the provision to bring in foreign workers, said an aide. It undermines immigration control, undercuts US wages, and opens foreign guest workers to exploitation.

LexisNexis is your friend!
We should hold Pro-American rallies across the country and let people like Tancredo and others speak.
Wouldn't that be a kick in the head to her Heinous.
So how are the Dem's Union buddies liking all of this?
I don't see why they would turn violent unless it would be to someone's benefit if they do. Seems it's usually the cops who cause a situation to turn violent and from what I've seen so far, the cops are keeping a distance. So far - so good.
Yep. Millions of American citizens have been watching our country being invaded by a foreign nation for 3 days now, and more are coming in as they watch!
They also know if Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton are there, these people are welfare recipients, too.
What it shows is who has influence with the Dem leadership. Apparently, illegal aliens have more influence than American citizens.
Dems sucking-up to those who can't LEGALLY vote. I'm shocked!
Despite what the polls allege, most Americans -- when asked a neutral/realistically phrased question -- oppose ILLEGAL immigration or granting amnesty.
Unfortunately for the Silent Majority, the Democrats hope to draw in new voters amongst the illegals and many corporate-backed Republicans would rather cater to an addiction to cheap, legally unprotected labor.
Neither party cares what effect this is going to have upon this country's future.
So many are now saying what I have been for a couple of weeks now. These are RAT rallies by and for RATs with the extra benefit of splitting the GOP into the sensible and the hysterical with the latter aiding the RAT attacks on the sensible.

That's the main thing running through my mind as I see these protests. That footage is undoubtedly being shown on Mexican TV, and Mexican citizens hesitant to emmigrate are thinking "wow, look at the size of the support group we'll have!" Only they think it in Espanol. =P
So I wouldnt be surprised if the number of illegals crossing the border jumps 300% because of these protests.
I oppose illegal immigration and amnesty. I also oppose the unrealistic notion or rounding up 20mm people and sending them home. If we simply increased security at the borders and stiffened the penalties for employing undocumented workers the problem would correct itself and the protestors wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
you wouldnt happen to have a link for that vote would you? I'd heard that was what happened, but I don't want to use it in argument unless I have proof, ya know? (that would be a liberal thing to do!) =P
if you could hook me up with a link, that would be great!
Absolutely! And what are those who took an oath to protect our country from foreign invasion doing about it right now? VACATIONING!
Haven't you heard the news? The Dems (Unions included) are united in their support of Amnesty for Illegals. Unions support the suppression of member wages caused by undocumented, unskilled (and non-union) laborers.
Its the Republicans that are split over the issue of Amnesty for Illegals.
And then there's McCain wanting free amnesty for all (I'm really starting to hate that man. No presidency for him - ever!).
