Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site

Posted on 04/11/2006 3:33:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

Free Republic is a conservative site
. . . and proudly so. Any publication, broadcast, or web site must be edited to appeal to a particular audience.

The audience FR is edited to appeal to is adult, not adolescent. It is adult, in the sense that adults behave themselves for the benefit of children. And adult in the sense that it promotes the preservation of "the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity."

By openly proclaiming its perspective, FR avoids the vice of arrogance which besets "objective" journalism.

So where in the posting did he say "Republican" I only see Conservative.

The part where he said give everything up, like what you do when you vote 3rd party and help elect democrats.

Well, if he's just gonna go around making accusations then he should have to defend them. Or is he privileged with the freedom to say whatever he wants without justifying it?

It's not a sticky wicket if you assume islam isn't a religion. islam doesn't meet my definition of a religion, but rather is a political movement based in mysticism.

Jim would you advocate voting for a libertarian or constitution party candidate over a Republican in a tight election for a senate seat if the senate was evenly divided?

I agree, voting 3rd party thinking you are proving some point is only helping the dems and hurting yourself.

Advocating impeachment of the president also helps the dems and hurts this country and is counterproductive to what Jim laid out, and will assuredly rollback all the progress that has been made in the last 5 years.

I will admit there are certain areas of this White House I don't come in full agreement with, but I am not going to give an "easy victory" to the dems by going to help a third party or impeaching this president.

The problem is that too many FReepers refuse to look at the immigration issue in a reasonable, thoughtful manner. They refuse to take into account the economic impact that displacing a workforce will cause. They also refuse acknowledge that by harping on illegal immigration, they're helping to undo gains among Hispanics that the GOP has made.

The one thing that the Republican party has apparently forgotten is that conservatives don't vote Republican, we vote conservative.

Ditto.

"We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government."

You're right, we don't. We leave that to the liberal sites!

Seriously, though, I like this site. It's very well- moderated, I feel like all of us here can talk about anything without it getting too intense or too personal. There's another site I visit, themuseumofleftwinglunacy, which isn't as well- moderated, and as a result, there are a bunch of extremely obnoxious left- wing trolls who always post annoying things on the site, not limited to personal attacks on conservative posters, and stuff which has absolutely nothing to do with the topics being discussed. For instance, the most recent topic brought up by the site's curator was concerning the ACLU and Planned Parenthood attempting to pass legislation against crisis pregnancy centers for false and misleading advertisement (Even though they had no evidence of any such incidents done on the part of the crisis pregnancy centers). We had a good discussion of it going for a while, but after a little bit, some of the liberal trolls started completely changing the subject until it turned into a disjointed debate over illegal immigration and the Plame/ Wilson scandal. I've also noticed that the trolls on that site don't usually try to change the subject like that unless they're really losing the argument over the issue at hand.
I'm so glad crap like that doesn't happen here.
Keep up the good work, guys!

And never forget that folks are mining our posts for quotes from "Conservative Blogs" Please watch what you post and don't embarrass us all

Good point. Don't say anything here that you wouldn't at your local diner. To often we have provided a "talking point" for the other side.

Of course that works both ways. DU has been mined a bit also.

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site ...... Taxation

Here's a whimsical thought. Let's make Mexico our 51st State, use it as a proving ground for the Fair Tax, and watch all the folks in Arizona, New Mexico, California, and other states run to Mexico. Oh, and don't forget the bottled water.

;-)

From the bottom of this Pennsylvanian's heart, thank you for this superb site. It really is by far the best in the country.

That's because FR is a conservative site, not a Republican site. :) The Republicans are, for now, the best way to advance a conservative agenda. (Notice "best" doesn't necessarily mean "good" in that case, but they're better than the Rats.)

Absent a viable conservative third party, we will have to work through the Republican party, at the grass-roots level, through our contributions (or withholding thereof), in the primaries, in order to shape them toward conservative principles. If a true, viable, conservative third party ever arose with a realistic shot at moving into a dominant position in the government, chances are I'd be gone from the Pubbies in a heartbeat (and so would many, if not most, of us here).

And if the Pubbies give us a RINO anyway in a general election, after all our work? That's where each of us has a personal decision to make. We have to personally decide if we can hold our nose and vote for the RINO if it means one less vote to hand the Rats back control of Congress, or one less vote toward handing a Rat the White House, or whatever government office. Sometimes I might vote for the RINO--I've done it before. Sometimes I might stay home or vote third-party--I've done it before. It's a decision I have to make each time, as to whether or not I think the RINO will be worse than the Rat. I NEVER simply vote for somebody because there's an "R" next to their name; if I'm uninformed about an election, I just won't vote in that election.

Right now I vote Republican because that's where most of the conservatives are. In the future, that could be subject to change.

Jim, thanks for reminding us to keep our eye on the ball and remember the larger picture. My contribution will be bound for FR, as soon as I get paid on Friday. :)
