Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

I don't see any proof of that assertion.

I am opposed to illegal immigration as are 75% or better of our membership. It's true that we try to keep out the racists and people who would shoot or otherwise threaten to harm illegal aliens, but so does the Minutemen--after we pointed out that the skinheads on stormfront were openly joining forces with them.

And it's also true that the I do not wish FR to be known as the official clearing house for anti-immigration posters, but again, it's because I do not wish to be associated with some of the people the issue attracts, ie, the stormfronters, CI, Aryans, white nationalists, separatists, KKK, Neo-Nazis, skinheads, etc. I want no part of that crap and will ban any of them that show up here. I also do not wish to be associated with any other website or organization that associates itself with or links to any of the above or which advocates against immigration based on racism or advocates violence (including shooting, mining the borders, etc) against illegal aliens.

Even so, there are tens of thousands of threads and hundreds of thousands of posts on FR calling for an end to illegal immigration and urging the government to do something about it. I doubt there are many larger sites on the Internet dealing with the issue than FR.

Reminder: FR does not tolerate profanity, racism or violence. We do not advocate for, hope for, wish for, or agitate for violence against illegals or anyone else other than the terrorists we're at war against. We also do not tolerate or advocate for, hope for, wish for, or agitate for insurrection, rebellion, revolution, vigilantism, armed overthrow of the government, civil war, armed uprisings or violence against any person or group of persons (including wishing to see them hanging from trees-quislings or not).

Disclaimer: Despite whatever may or may not happen with the immigration issue, I still support the war against Islamfascism and all other conservative issues or causes and I know the Democrats will screw them up beyond all repair if ever allowed back into power, so I still support the president and I still support a Republican majority in congress and I couldn't care less if that makes me a "bushbot" in your eyes. Calling me or other FReepers "quisling" or "traitor," on the other hand, are fighting words.

You need to take a real hard look at the poll you've got on the sidebar Jim.

Well over 50% of the posters here have said they'll either vote 3rd party or stay home over this issue. I'm one of them.

It's all fine and good to say the we support 'conservative causes'. I just can't happen to be able to think of a more conservative cause than defending the borders of the sovereign United States. If we can't defend our own borders, everything else kind of pales in comparison don't you think?

I've pretty much been quiet as this current crop of Republicans have spent in a fashion that would have had this place howling in rage had Clinton done it. I've pretty much kept quiet as this bunch of Republicans added the largest new Entitlement program since Johnsons Great Society, and I've pretty much kept quiet on the subject of a pork laden Highway bill that would have made Tip O'Neill blush.

I wondered quietly to myself just exactly when and where all this 'conservatism' stuff was going to actually happen because I don't think anyone can actually point to it.

But this issue is my line in the sand. Hastert and Frist said it yesterday. There will be no criminal penalties for those who are illegally crossing our borders.

So just when exactly are we going to get some actual conservative stuff out of these clowns, Jim?

The President himself called the Minutemen 'vigilantes'. There's more than a few of those 'vigilantes' posting here. So who's right and who's wrong? Are the folks who actually live down there and are trying to defend their property and their country just a bunch of vigilantes as the President said?

I guess if Frist, Hastert, and our conservative President think we're just a bunch of mouth breathing racist vigilantes then it must be true.

Geez...if Clinton and Dashcle had pulled half this stuff this place would be absolutely spinning in a white hot rage. But since it's our guys we're supposed to support them because somehow the alternative would be worse.

Well I sure would like to see something conservative pretty soon because in between the news that the Republican leaders of both the House and the Senate now favor absolutely no penalties for folks who violate our borders and the cheery little fact that Federal Spending is now the highest in our Nations history I'm having a hard time finding it.

Maybe we'll get that crucial, all important, just gotta have it, civilization will end if we don't Marraige Amendment to the US Constitution. That'll make everything better.

Yup. As we grow older (I'm now 60 and no longer in m'prime healthwise) we realize that this battle is far from over and will not end during our lifetimes. In fact it never ends. The Beast never dies, it just changes form. Right now, I think one of the best legacies we can leave the next generation (I mean besides putting down Islamofascism) is a constitutionally minded judiciary. This will lay the groundwork for the beginning of a return to constitutionally limited government. But it'll probably take 10-20 years or more to really come to fruition. Something for our grandchildren.

There's nothing I can do about the way you or anyone else votes. And there's not a flipping thing I can do about Bush's immigration policy (Rove no longer returns my calls). But his term is soon over and he'll be gone. I'd advise you and everyone else to start working on electing his replacement. And the only way you're gonna beat the next Marxist Democrat in 2008 is to have a party with 60,000,000 or more voters. And probably 80,000,000 or more in 2012 if we give up power now to the Democrats and they legalize the now illegal aliens. There's no third party that stands a chance of even coming close to beating the Democrats. And that stands for the local and congressional races as well. Best be thinking about how to get conservatives elected as Republicans rather than dreaming third party pipe dreams or sitting on the sidelines.

I had so wished we could avoid having to hand this all off to our kids and grandkids. It's an uphill battle and I don't think they'll be able to cope with things as much or as well as the previous generations have.
Just too few against so many who are so concerted in their desires...

I'm just filled with pessimism lately so ignoring me might be for the best. I don't need to drag others down.
