Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site

Posted on 04/11/2006 3:33:35 AM PDT by Jim Robinson

Just a reminder: Free Republic is a conservative site. We fight for conservative principles, values and causes. We defend the Constitution. We defend our borders. We defend our God-given rights. We are opposed to the liberal/socialist/Marxist agenda for America. We do not willingly give up ground to the Marxists.

It's true that the illegal immigration issue is very discouraging, and I don't know if anyone has a solution that will appeal to conservatives and yet manage to get by Democrat obstructionism, ie, a filibuster, but I don't see that as any reason to give up everything. We should not allow it to rip us apart and destroy the movement. We fight on.

We hold the majority. We continue working as hard as we possibly can to elect as many conservatives as we possibly can. We build a conservative majority that can overcome the Democrats and the RINOs. We do not willingly give up any seats to Democrats. We add seats. Preferably, conservative seats.

I would also like to remind everyone, that Free Republic does not condone racism and does not advocate violence. We exercise our first amendment rights to free speech and peaceable assembly. We do not condemn people because of their race, religion, ethnicity, skin color, etc. We do not advocate civil war, anarchy, or an overthrow of the government. We do not advocate shooting illegals or mining the borders. We do not appreciate people coming across our borders illegally, but as conservatives, we do not issue racial epithets or threaten them with violence or bodily harm.

And, yes, we are at war. And we do support our troops and their mission. We also respect our commander-in-chief and are mindful that when people disrespect him, it hurts troop morale. We do not appreciate the mainstream media's attempts to destroy America's will to fight and we do not do anything to assist the Democrats and their accomplices in the media in their treasonous mission of undermining the war effort by providing aid and comfort to the enemy.

And despite our dissatisfaction and disappointments in regards to the illegal immigration issue, we recognize that it is not the last issue on earth and there are plenty of other reasons not to allow the Marxist Democrats to retake power.

I'll list a few issues (by no means and exhaustive list) that will be adversely affected by Marxist/Democrats in power:

Islamofascism/terrorism
National Security/Defense
The United Nations (as in their control over us)
The Supreme Court
The federal judiciary
The legislative agenda
The right to life
Marriage between one man, one woman
The family
Education
Health care
Private property
Taxation
Oil/energy
The right to keep and bear arms
The right to freedom of religion
The right to self-governance
All of our God-given rights
The Constitution
The Republic
Liberty itself

Do not get so discouraged that we give it all up. It could take generations to get it back. If ever.

"Securing the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" is our duty.

Agree about the crevo arguments. It just seems that those are arguments that should be confined to religion threads.

And this is where we diverge. :-) Crevo threads usually end up the way they do because a few fanatics here in FR have a problem with new scientific findings that furthers the theory of evolution. Almost always these are science threads that quickly degenerate into Crevo arguments when certain folks come onboard the thread to either, yell we are clueless, or atheists, or white collar welfare, it's only a "theory", etc. It would be nice if just once we could discuss the SCIENCE without someone yelling we are all spawns of Satan.

I can only guesstimate . . .

but if I were Jim, I'd think that seeing this sort of bickering . . . especially on this sort of thread . . .

would leave me feeling like pulling my hair out and heading for the deep hills never to return.

Sheesh.

Take it to Chat! There is still Chat, isn't there?

Jim gives so much for us to MAJOR ON MAJORS and minor on minors in terms of the reasons the forum was set up.

The least we can do is be encouraging and supportive and keep such messy, relatively petty (given goals of forum), quasi family squabbles out of the mainstream threads.

It's sort of like he sets up this thread to highlight our focus and what we are supposed to be majoring in and ya'll decide to provide a demonstration of the opposite use of the forum for the worst sort of bickering.

As a Christian, I may fiercely share a lot of the values vis a vis 'evolution' etc. and I'm not exactly known as a wimp hereon in Christian . . . squabbles . . . But this has gotten ridiculous and should be taken elsewhere than this thread. There's a time and place for most things. This is not the place or time for this squabble, imho.

Would it be too much to ask for once, that when Jim sets up a thread such as this that we cheer him on and support his focus and aims wholesale and KEEP THE OTHER SLUG SH*T OUT OF IT!???!

I think I should have clarified my statement.

I did not intend to single you or your post out. I just chose it as being symptomatic of the many other posts on this thread which demonstrate the viciousness of the crevo debate here.

This sentence of yours...

I couldn't care less.
...and this one, contradict each other.

It's just a shame to see this fine forum descend to such a low level of vitriolic, ad hominem discourse.

No. They do not contradict.

The "I couldn't care less" was a response to your question if I thought Christians were being unfairly targeted by the mods in contrast to evos. I didn't even give the accusation a thought. Therefore, I couldn't care less.

The second statement had nothing to do with your question. The "vitriolic, ad hominem discourse" comment was my opinion on how many here--not you in particular--have addressed their differing opinions.

No contradiction whatsoever.

Again, my original post was not meant as an attack on your post, (even though that is the post I responded to) but was rather a commentary on the way both sides in the crevo debate have acted: uncivil and with no respect for differing views.

At least something has been salvaged from the mess with the Supreme Court Appointments.

Yes, you have to take what you can get. The all or nothing folks aren't realistic. I'm ashamed to say I voted for BC in 92--after Ross Perot self-destructed. It was my first time voting in a national election and I didn't know anything about politics.

Actually, RA, I have seen both sides get very vicious very quickly on the crevo threads.

Usually, it takes less than ten posts before one side or the other starts throwing the mud, and then it usually descends into a flame fest. Heck, look at this thread. It isn't a crevo thread and the insults are flying.

Not really having a dog in the hunt, I would say both sides share the guilt.

No dear. We don't diverge. I said the argument should be confined to "religion" threads. Science has nothing to do with religion and should be a subject apart. I think we agree on this. :0)

Quix, take a chill pill. Whether or not you or anyone else understands my posts, I was totally supporting the premise of this thread. No one is bickering. To put it bluntly, someone accused Jim and the mods of having a bias against Christians. I strongly came to the defense of Jim and the mods, not that they need me or anyone else to do so. Still, the accusation was absurd, and I didn't want it to go unchallenged. Since this is where the accusation was made, this is where I challenged it.

Skooz decided to respond, and we exchanged a couple of posts that allowed both of us to further explain our points of view.

Skooz, thank you for the clarification in your #1,046.

Thanks -- I feel a little less lonely now.

Demographics is indeed destiny and I can't recall any demographic shift of these proportions since the Goths sacked Rome. Unlike what befell Rome, this assault appears to have the full approval of our own majority national party.

I'm a Californian too and have watched the same changes you have. The impact of illegal votes has been crucial in this slow-motion disaster. And the Prop. 187 debacle showed once and for all that American citizens no longer have any say in how their government operates.

I give the President and Congress great credit for appointing what appear to be two solid conservatives to the Supreme Court. But I fear it's too little, too late given their apparent inability to comprehend the result of the illegal alien problem. If they do comprehend it, then we live in an age of cynicism beyond any I ever thought I'd see in my lifetime.

New rule: NEVER USE THE WORD "YOU" WHEN DEBATING. It personalizes the debate when there is no need to do so. Causes misunderstandings and makes people feel like they have been attacked. Just state your opinion and back it up with facts if you can. If you can't then state "this is just my opinion". This rule is the first rule of arbitration, and the first rule I lay down when counseling married couples. They are allowed to talk as long as they want to about how they see the situation, but cannot use the word "you" when talking to the spouse. Try it, it works. (ducking)

Apology accepted. I had already posted a very brief reply. Notice I didn't use that word in this one. ;-)

"NEVER USE THE WORD "YOU" WHEN DEBATING."

This is probably THE best statement made on this thread. You is accusatory. You did, you said, you are, etc incites a personal connection. Instead, make it, I think, I believe, I am, which focuses the subject back towards the postee, not the poster. It will help out tons if we all can remember this.
