Hear it comes..the shouts of "leftist lying media!"

"GOP voters are thrilled with GOP leadership!"

"Bush's low approval ratings are all lies!"

"GOP Congressional low approval ratings are all lies too!"

No amnesty. Not now. Not ever. Seal the borders and then start deporting. Bring in legal migrants.

If the immigration debate - which is an open & shut case - is killing the GOP, then the GOP deserves to die.

And this is coming from someone who NEVER voted for any Dim in his life.

The House bill is killing Republicans in the Hispanic community.

Really? It isn't killing the Hispanic vote in my home. My wife is for far more "draconian" actions against illegals than HR 4437 calls for.

If the GOP would stand on principle, that is the upholding of the rule of law, they will do fine. If they don't, they will get killed.

False crisis disinfo pretending to placate "conservatives" (really just about everyone), while pushing through amnesty. Who pays this guy?

"The second pillar the GOP is endangering is the Hispanic community,..."

Nice try.... but no-ones bitin'.

Hasn't it been proven time and time again here on FR that LEGAL hispanics WANT increased border security, immigration reform and are AGAINST "Amnesty"?

The right is going to cry amnesty at any process that puts illegals on a pathway to citizenship while still being able to live in the U.S. The left is going to balk at a real fence and shutting down the border. But liberals who say they are for enforcement and securing the border are going to have a hard time opposing the only real way to secure the border. And the only way conservatives will stomach what is effectively a 2nd amnesty is if they know a fence will go up and the illegal flow will grind to a halt.

You don't split the difference with criminals.

Next?

And what percentage of legal, voting Hispanics are also against illegal immigration?

The Hispanic community is focusing on the severely PR-challenged House bill which has sparked enormous public demonstrations -- political energy that will not be helpful for Republicans this fall

If the GOP keeps to it's guns (maybe softening the House Bill somewhat) and not let a bill pass that does not contain some type of increased border enforcement and employer penalties then I think the GOP is OK. RATS could be shown to be soft on American sovereignty.

It doesn't matter that an overwhelmingly majority of House Republicans voted to take the felon language out of the Sensenbrenner bill but were defeated by Democrats who cynically (but shrewdly) voted to keep the language intact.

Who was the brain surgeon who put the felony language in the bill in the first place?

Rep. Peter King (news, bio, voting record) tried to explain on FOX News Sunday that the House bill is being distorted and humanitarians aiding illegals wouldn't be prosecuted, but it is too late. The House bill is killing Republicans in the Hispanic community.

King looked positively dopey trying to undo the damage that three months of allowing the false impression (if it is a false impression) to take a firm hold.

I know it won't play well on this board, but President Bush is as much to blame as anyone on the recent immigration fiasco/demostrations.

His unwillingness to stand a 'pro-enforcement' stand, and his words about the benefits of immigration (he doesn't mention the illegal part, of course) only serves to encourage more illegal immigration and to incite those already here to be even MORE VOCAL and MORE OUTRAGEOUS.

I'm afraid his unwillingness to say 'enough is enough' when it comes to illegal immigration will do permanent damage to the country and the Republican Party long-term (since the majority of the illegals will vote democratic when they inevitably become citizens someday/somehow).

The democrats (did any of you see Ted Kenney today at one of the rallies?) will ENSURE that most (and even more to come in the future) DO become citizens. The democrats realize that they have a GOLD MINE here in millions of future voters!

This whole fiasco does not bode well for the future of the Republican Party.

The biggest problem with the GOP is they did NOT take this one step at a time.

They allowed themselved to get suckered into trying to fix ALL the illegal alien problems in one immigration bill, to fix everything wrong in one fell swoop.

I believe the GOP would have been on firmer ground if they took this one step at a time and the first step would have been protect our borders. Control the borders, then talk about other issues concerning illegals who do not respect laws.

"Republicans face a growing disaster on immigration. Right now the GOP is sailing on a dangerous course where they are increasingly turning off two pillars of their new majority. The first pillar is the talk-radio portion of the Republican base led by Rush Limbaugh (and the many who have followed in his wake) that provide a tremendous amount of energy to the conservative movement. The second pillar the GOP is endangering is the Hispanic community, the single largest growing demographic in American politics. In 2004, President Bush increased his share of the Hispanic vote to around 40% nationally. Had John Kerry been able win the same percentage of the Hispanic vote as Al Gore in 2000, he would have won the presidency."

The writer forgets to mention that many in this group also happen to be here illegally. Is this what the Republican Party has become? Will we throw away our conservative convictions because it's good for the Party? Pathetic!

Once again the Know Nothings and clueless rise to endanger the Nation. There is nothing the Left hopes for more than to whip up anger against the GOP. ALL assisting their efforts are endangering the Nation.

How the Right ever wins an election is a mystery since it is trivially simple to stampede it into Blind Alleys, over the Cliff with a few well-chosen LIES and news stories about lesser issues.
