Tremendous Surge in UK Crime Rate; Gov. Gives up, Discourages Victims from Resisting

The Public Policy Three Strikes and You're ... in Like Flint By Hal G.P. Colebatch Published 4/10/2006 12:06:30 AM American and British criminologists have long been puzzled and angered by the fact that Britain seems to have learnt nothing from the experience of New York in successfully reducing crime. The big drop in virtually all types of crime in New York has generally been attributed to the zero-tolerance policy associated with Mayor Guiliani. Now Britain, far from adopting zero-tolerance, looks like it's adopting a policy of not prosecuting many serious crimes at all. This is the subject of an official Home Office directive to all British police forces. British police have now been told that instead of arresting a range of serious criminals, they can be let off with a caution. The Home Office says offenses that may now be dealt with by a caution include burglary of a shop or office, threatening to kill, actual bodily harm, and possession of Class A drugs such as heroin or cocaine if police decide a caution would be the best approach. Other crimes including common assault, threatening behavior, sex with an underage girl or boy, and car theft should normally be dealt with by a caution, if the offenders admit their guilt but have no criminal record. London and British crime rates have been increasing for years. Recently total crime rates for London have been estimated at about seven times those of New York for a slightly smaller population and some authorities suggest these figures have been minimized. England and Wales are now accounted by some estimates as the most dangerous places for crime in the developed world.

So in their heads, the proper place of the law-abiding citizen is to be a good, passive little victim to anyone who wishes to abuse him, be it government or criminals. Perhaps they are one in the same.

Ultimately, people may be driven to kill the POS, hide the body some way or other and keep their mouths shut.

Just what I was thinking -- "Hey U.K.! You banned individual firearm ownership! So, how's that workin' for ya?"

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject...

One way to ameliorate these embarrassing statistics is to give warnings, which don't go into the statistics. The bureaucrats can always solve the statistics problem. They don't have a clue about public safety.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the PEOPLE to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." I'm convinced that this is one of the cornerstones separating us from European effeminacy. For those that want to disarm and neuter the PEOPLE of the U.S., it will NEVER happen.

Agree / Good Point....and thats why the Liberals want to disarm its citizens. :^)

Clayton Williams was running for governor of Texas a few years ago and was on a camp out or something with a group of reporters or "journalists" and made the same crack when it started to rain that if rain was inevitable like rape to just lie back and enjoy it.

His campaign didn't survive the remark. The press went nuts and you can imagine how the "feminists" reacted.

I keep thinking that this sort of anarcho-tyranny is going to generate a reaction of a sort of vigilante war on thugs. Now people report crimes. In the future the victim class may quietly prepare to deal with those the law can't or won't. Even with all the security cameras in the UK there are still plenty of lonely places were thug bodies can be dumped. I can imagine a harried police culture of 've know nothing' about either violent crimes or the violent termination of the criminals. And in response to another question. A disproportionate share of violent crimes are perpetrated by 'Asian' (read Muslim mostly Pak), African and West Indian thugs.

Comments? Sounds a bit hyperbolic to me. ;)

Fascism with an anti-Muslim bias might not be the worst thing that could happen to the UK.

Have you seen the movie "V for Vendetta?" That was the premise for the society the "hero" was rebelling against.

Not that I'm um... condoning anything, but sooner or later people are really going to get fed up and it's going to happen.

No. And I'm not going to see it. I'd be cheering for the "villains." This is happening to me more and more often these days.

There are two ways to cut crime: eliminate lawbreakers or eliminate laws.

at least we put the crooks in jail.

Unless their illegal. Then we let them go with a stern welcome and a free bus ticket to any American city.

An armed man is a citizen. An unarmed man is a subject

I'm sure that 14 million victims of the Nazi death camps would agree with that.

As will untold millions in Europe in the times to come.
Or would if they survive.

is that quote from Heinlein?
