A year or two before 9-11 I had a fairly long conversation on a plane flight with an older very Tory British woman. She could not, or absolutely would not, grasp the point of an unabrigable constitutional right for the citizenry to own firearms as a protection both from crime and tyranny. To her it was simple. Guns equaled crime and mass murder as in the case in Scotland. The answer outlaw guns and have the state be tough on policing for them with warrantless 'inspections' as the British have to submit to if they own a TV for Inland Revenue proof of televison tax payment. As to tyranny that was, in her words 'poppycock, it's HM's government we are speaking of.' I have often wondered what her perceptions are today.
