WOW!
game, set, match...
just dust off the dirt and take your victory lap!!
;-)
Who gave you permission to inject common sense into this argument?
ROFLLLL !!
Really?
you really should read your own writings before posting them....
;-)
LOL! Why does that NOT surprise me?
thanks for sharing that with us....
I remember your dad having to do that too.
I hope you don't mind my using the UK or Canadian health program for examples. It's important to keep reminding people why we do NOT want universal healthcare paid through taxes.
Sorry that is a completely unprovable assumption. I know that is not what Freepers want to hear but the "indirect" costs" are no more measurable then the "Gains" from illegals. Both sides can throw factoids around all day. Only problem is all the assumptions they build off of our assumptions, not facts. No matter WHAT a favorite talking head tells you. They cannot measure the costs, nor the gains either, with any level of surety. That is just basic economic reality. Too many variables, too many unprovable assumptions. Maybe it is true, maybe not also
"I don't have to parrot what others say, but your point about paid labor makes MY point, but you don't seem to realize that. Maybe you should consider where that other 93% comes from, and consider what would happen if that cost were to double?"
Your logic escapes me. 7% is 7%. The idea that increasing paid labor -which is 7% of retail price - would double the price, makes no sense.
And 75% of farm laborers are already US citizen or Legal immigrants.
Its a global economy. We'll import produce from Mexico before we double the price.
So tell me again why we'd be paying $5 a head for lettuce without illegals.
It's from Rush's website. Posted on the home page Right side column. I think they have a live link in the text to the Brookings docs
It's gonna take a Lou Dobbs style effort. Love him or hate him he has been dogged on the border for months and months, on each and every show he does. Even with CNN's small/shrinking audience it finally took hold.
We need a conservative broadcaster to jump on the Saddam document bandwagon, someone who will read a new document on every show, and never ever let up. The lamestream media will ignore anything and everything that doesn't swing to the left except for stuff that does not go away. That will be our job to see that key things like the Saddam docs, Able Danger, Barret etc. do not go away.
Sooner or later the truth shall prevail.
Immigration does not exist in a vacuum. It has to be dealt with in the context of other issues occurring concurrently. The President has to be concerned about the results of the Mexican election in July, and the result of an anti-American getting elected as regards to trade, oil and gas prices, American businesses in Mexico, etc. We also do not know what help Mexico gives us in catching terrorists who attempt to get through to the USA. It is quite possible that the porous border is allowed as a sort of flypaper. (I am not saying this is a fact, but only a supposition.)
Since it is obvious that President Bush has the security of this nation in mind, why IS it that he has not pushed for closing the border? I do not accept the simplistic notions of the ranters I run into on FR (Bush is in Fox's pocket, Bush loves Mexicans, etc. etc.).
The war on terror is a giant chess game, and there are things we don't know. Disclaimer: I am simply postulating without having any real knowledge.
Txsleuth- your info may be spot on... but that just brings me back to this point....
"it is always harder to feel the pain when we correct our wrongs than it is to continue down the road that got us in the mess.....
not EVERYONE takes the easy route.... "
I am not saying that cracking down on illegal immigration won't hurt... and I am NOT saying that you would ever choose the easy road instead of the right one...I AM saying that it is FAR better than continueing down the road we are on.....It will hurt us much more in the long run if we DON'T!
He should be fired simply for being there for over 20 years! Are ANY of these Democrat Dinasours EVER leaving the Senate? No wonder we get nothing done. They all think it still 1980 in the world.
Yes, it escapes many of you, but that alone does not make it unsound.
Your point about 75% of farm workers is neither true nor relevant to the issue. The issue you are arguing(or attempting to) is about COGS (cost of good and services) and their breakdown. Unless you understand this breakdown, and each item's relationship to the others, you wont understand what I said.
British produce is more expensive than imported. Most of our cheaper fruit and veg comes from Spain.
Oranges are either Spanish or Israeli.
My ENTIRE point in a nutshell.
Thanks. I don't listen to Laura much because she's on at 10 - 12 and I'm at work. I can listen to Rush a little during lunch on my walks.
I remember her saying that everything had started to go well for her, she had met a great guy, she was happy and then she was diagnosed with cancer.
If this is the guy, he sounds like a creep. He's a better fit with the perky one. Laura deserves much better.
