Sorry I was gone for a while. My husband needed the computer. I am still here because it has not yet hit 50 degrees outside, and I just can't stand doing yard work in the cold (which is why I shouldn't be a cranberry bog picker...the old knees won't take it).

Trust me on my comments about Kerry. What I said to my husband couldn't even be printed here. My husband wanted to know why I made myself mad listening to Kerry, and I had to explain my self-appointed task for today. He thinks we are all masochists, since he was cheering himself up by listening to a discussion of how cinnamon would help you lose weight, lower your blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, and prevent diabetes. I am now going to be putting cinnamon in the oatmeal.

76% of the farm workers are American OR LEGAL workers. xource is the NY Times, 4-2-2006. The NY Times source is the Pew Hispanic Center among others.

Thanks for the cite too. I knew I read or heard this over the past week sometime.

You never will; it a certain election looser. People want more funding for the NHS not less even though many people are opting for private care to get treatment quickly. If they do this they pay twice once through national insurance out of their wage packet and then again either via private health insurance or by just paying.

Recently dad was advised he needed an MRI scan due to waiting list and fact he over 70 it could have been up to 6 months wait. He paid 600 pounds sterling and had it done within 3 days.

The majority of people will not be willing to change they see healthcare as their right and do not realise how much they are really paying for it both directly and indirectly.

It sure doesn't help the Bush Administration when, yet again, Arlen Specter sits on national TV..and says, "Yes, by golly...Bush has some explaining to do",...just like he did with the NSA program and everything else Bush has done the last 6 years...

I read an article by Hugh Hewitt last night..where he has a goal to get Lincoln Chafee out of the Senate because he votes against Bush's policies..and actually voted against Bush in 2004..

BUT, in the same article, Hugh says he LIKES SPECTER!!!

He definitely lost me there...

I DO remember that article! What struck me about this today was the particular creepiness given his history in the Vietnam war protests. It was almost like dancing on those dead GI's graves, saying, "Nanny-nanny boo boo, I am alive and you are not!"

DId you copy this or did you actually type all this out?

Your $5 a head for lettuce agrument is crap. Paid labor is only 7% of the retail head of lettuce.

Further, 75% of the paid farm laborers are US citizens. Total farm labor is about 1 million people. We have 12 million illegals. What are the other 10 million doing?

Where's the money today?

That money has gone to service the National Debt, brought on by spending for social programs that began in the late 60s that was in large part the beginning of short-term borrowing that sent interest rates on their climb that peaked with Jimmy Carter in the mid 70s.

The result of short-term borrowing against high interest rates, combined with high taxation on a stagnant economy has produced an overall decline of which we can never recover unless we can insure another 20-30 years of lower taxation, combined with lower costs for goods and services.

Democrats want the reverse, because it is how they gain power over the electorate. Republicans have a responsibility to keep Democrats from regaining power, which is exactly why you see Republicans ready to sell you out on this issue. As my original point suggested, you cant blame immigration on immigration alone. It is just part of a much bigger issue.

Have just measured my lettuce head it is only about 5 - 6 inches so you are right yours are larger. Pricewise I reckon what you pay in dollars I pay in pounds. Of course we have to pay for CAP that the Spanish farmers get most of the benefit of in the case of lettuce.

LOL! I said I want my country and laws adhered to..

You said, "No you Don't"

Prove it...silly....

the victory cry part is when you claim everyone runs when you bring up this point....

it is not running... it is realizing that you are no longer debating on facts- but personal attacks and assumptions...

I think Rush has touched on this a few times... it is like trying to talk facts with a liberal....

it is always harder to feel the pain when we correct our wrongs than it is to continue down the road that got us in the mess.....

not EVERYONE takes the easy route....

so don't ASSUME they all do....

you are all over the park in your arguments...stick to facts... you do much better... much more of a challenge...there was no reason for the "No you don't"

If you take that out of your argument- and the WWJD crapola while condoning law breaking- you will do much better....

but those two things just slide you into the gutter- and you are much smarter than that....

btw- can I have popcorn instead of a cookie.....goes better with beer...

;-)

Thanks for the correction.

Per "Dept of Agriculture" paid farm labor is less than 1 million.

I wonder what are the other 11 million illegals doing?

And if we make all the illegals, legal, are they going to all quit? After all they would be then be Americans, and Americans won't pick lettuce.

I guess your question is whether or not I think for myself? I don't have to parrot what others say, but your point about paid labor makes MY point, but you don't seem to realize that. Maybe you should consider where that other 93% comes from, and consider what would happen if that cost were to double?

The fact is that every other associated cost would double as well, because everything else just got more expensive to support that increase; unless you are among those naive enough to think that those costs will just be eaten by businesses and not passed directly to you.

Is most produce in England imported?

Obviously, you don't grow oranges, but what about all the other produce?

As an aside, I think that the Mexicans have learned a PR lesson. The demonstration in Dallas is full of American flags and they are playing "God Bless the USA."
