"Fightin' Spirit" Total Recovery prayer thread [Update at 395]
April 7, 2006
Posted on 04/07/2006 12:01:04 AM PDT by Albion Wilde
FRiends, you who are initially pinged to this thread know whom it is for -- it is for someone whose preparation for a military career has been interrupted for an indefinite amount of time, and whose recovery will take patience and hard work. We will refer to this prayer recipient as Fightin' Spirit.
Fightin' Spirit is not a screen name, but a shield to protect the family and friends as we lift them up in prayer without leaving a cybertrail. God knows who this thread is intended for; he reads hearts. So, please, no names in your posts to the public thread.
This is a prayer chain, not intended for medical discussion, but rather to affirm God's healing power, and His gifts of peace and spiritual strength to move in a new direction.
Your responses to my last FReepmail have been astounding and humbling. When I suggested that those who may want to drop off my ping list for any reason should FReepmail me, I did not receive a single drop request -- but dozens of prayer warriors wrote, making sure they would be left on!
I will update this prayer thread once every week or two. From here on out, everyone who signs onto this thread will be placed on the ping list for updates, and those who do not sign on will not continue to receive update pings.
...but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

can we get down to IMPORTANT things, Albion ... did his team win ????????????
Reading your post has, once again, brought tears of joy to my eyes for FS. What a glorious day. So happy FS could enjoy with his friends. Also, delighted that he's taken such positive step for his future. What a remarkable young man ... praise the Lord for his healing, physically and emotionally, in the face of such a challenge.

can we get down to IMPORTANT things, Albion ... did his team win ???????????? I'm afraid they totally sucked. But the tickets served their purpose when the friends took them into his hospital room and talked them up while he was fighting to regain consciousness. So he won, even if the O's tanked!

Update June 1. 2006
"I Couldn't Have Done It Without You."
FRiends, a week ago today, Fightin' Spirit walked the long football field with his graduating class, crossed the stage to shake hands with his university's president, and processed off the field again hours later, with only a nearly imperceptible limp as a reminder of his devastating accident just two months prior. His proud parents watched from the stands. Later, the extended family gathered around for a home celebration, where they marveled at the speed and progress of his recovery.
Several took him aside to tell him about the variety of churches and groups they contacted as soon as he was injured, and who had prayed for him. His mother carried two fat envelopes with her - his graduation pictures, and print-outs of this prayer thread. Referring to all his prayer warriors, he said, "I couldn't have done it without you."
In humility, we don't know if this is true. But God knows. Along with FS's astonished relatives, who were shaking their heads at the restoration of his warm personality and outgoing banter with aunts, uncles and cousins, let us thank God again for this opportunity to have joined in prayer for this young man, who is still hoping to qualify for a military career after another year of healing and rehabilitation. His interim goal is to recover his reading, writing and research skills well enough to apply to graduate school in August. Let us continue to lift up this desire for him.
The family was also in the process of trying to move when this event threw their timetables awry. Let's pray that their planned relocation is accomplished to the greater glory of God, and is useful for His purposes.
Thank you, Father!
Amen!
