I normally would try to respond to comments on a thread to ensure that I wasn't posting and fleeing, however in this case there are so many good comments that I can't respond to only a few.

I agree with all sentiments posted in the first 30 or so. Romney signs this and he might as well run as Hildabeast's VP......Socialism...economics....

All good feedback! That's why I love FR!

The problem is that the uninsured do cost everybody in the form of increases in our premiums.

As it stands, those who could afford to purchase health insurance pay their own way when they get sick...or use catastrophic health insurance. Those who cannot afford to buy health insurance - and I cannot imagine why - there are many plans out there and most states offer subsidized health insurance paid for by the taxpayer - are breaking the bank...everyone's.

The worst thing to do is to expect the employer to pay again for this subsidy.

"The measure does not call for new taxes but would require businesses that do not offer insurance to pay a $295 annual fee per employee".

What the hell is the difference? Can't a conservative stay conservative anymore? The government should never force a company to do anything. This is a disgrace. When the F are we going to get a serious conservative that practices what he preaches. All we have today is pandering pansies.

Living in Massachusetts must really suck. I wonder if Romney is considering how this leftist bilge is going to play on a national stage in 2008?

The plan — approved just 24 hours after the final details were released

That's shorter than the cooling off period for buying a gun.

and those already insured will see a modest drop in their premiums.

And a not so modest rise in their taxes.

"It's only fitting that Massachusetts would set forward and produce the most comprehensive, all-encompassing health care reform bill in the country," said House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi, a Democrat. "Do we know whether this is perfect or not? No, because it's never been done before."

Uh, Sal, there's a reason it's never been done before . . . because it's INCREDIBLY STUPID! But you're right about it's being fitting that MA would be first with something like that . . . just like gay "marriage"!

Someone, ANY FREEPER, please explain to me why this guy is even remotely a possible Presidential candidate.

Nobody has been able to explain why I would vote for a person who was put into office by the same people who continue to vote for Teddy Kennedy and John Kerry.

Coming soon to a neighborhood near you: mandatory socialized medicine.

Coming soon to neighborhoods in Massachusetts: thousands of new immigrants.

Free cheese, everybody! Yes, it's really FREE! NO ONE has to pay! (yeah, right)

Why don't they skip the middleman and just mandate that everyone stay healthy. Think of the savings.

$295? Couldn't they have made it $299.99?

Seems like the goal was to keep it under 300 bucks. So it seems like the Commmonwealth is cheating itself out of $4.99 per vict err taxpayer.

Can you imagine what it would be like if Republican meant "conservative"?

The number of actual conservative Republicans is tiny. I mean in the politician class; the hoi polloi has plenty of conservative Republicans.
