Well that reads like, well, Pravda.

about 1500 battleships

I think 1500 battleships would make for quite a crowd in the Persian Gulf...but we all know that Pravda never exaggerates.

I'm not sure what's more disturbing:

The fact the story starts with a word like "whilst", or that Iran plans on using the daring Natalie Portman and Condi's sexual worries as weapons against us.

" ... Meanwhile, on Sunday Teheran announced the successful tests of the world's quickest torpedo, capable of reaching speeds of over 100 m/sec. As the Iranian military declared, not a single army in the world is able to defend itself against this underwater missile."

Dang! There goes the Pentagons plans to build underwater bases for our troops.

It has become obvious that the Iranians are no mere madcap muslims.

Thanks for the laugh

“flying ghost-ship”“The Great Prophet”

This "excercise" sounds more like an excercise in Chinese restaurant menu-writing...

The "Eaglet" is more commonly known as a "wave-effect vehicle", and the Russians produced and tested a few of them, right before they abandoned the project. The technology is hardly new; a few years back an engineer friend of mine was going to buy a kit to build a two-man WEV in his boathouse.

Who else is reminded of the German Wartime propaganda 1944 onwards where the German people were bombarded with stories of the secret weapons that were being developed and would turn the tide of war against the Allies.

BTW, it must have been a riot to see the first large-scale Iranian military excercise in history... I imagine the event to be much like the free-for-all boating scene on any busy lake on Fourth of July weekend.

.....exercises known as “The Great Prophet” began in the region of the Persian and Oman Gulfs, in which more than 17 thousand soldiers, about 1500 battleships....

1500 battleships? lol....I'd be surprised if they had 15. Same old Pravda. The Russians are getting comically desperate in their attempts to keep us from taking care of business in the Gulf.

A US Special Forces soldier is seen riding a captured top secret Iranian All Terrain Troop Carrier in a photo released late yesterday by the Pentagon.

An unnamed DOD official was quoted as saying, "This is just another example of a weapons system development program that slipped in under our radar. It will take us years to catch up to this and other technology developments in the Middle East. We've got a team reverse engineering this one as we speak"

Yeah, this super dooper torpedo will need a secure launch platform. lol...Syria would be well advised, to follow Libya's lead. Since, everyone knows, Putin would also stand the fk down. He will just say- "Hey, I had no idea, these bastards would try to use what we sold 'em. We assumed it was for a peaceful purpose. My personal regret is overwhelming!"

However, it soon emerged that this weapon is not particularly new, and most importantly, in no way originated in Iran. International experts admitted that the torpedo was developed in the Soviet Union – it is called “Tornado” and does indeed travel at extremely high speeds, but is accurate only up to a range of 7km, which is more often than not insufficient for the demands of modern military action.

The above is all pretty standard fare from our own MSM coverage....however...the next paragraph adds something quite additional....a CHINA connection.

According to one version, Iran was able to get hold of the “Tornado” from Kyrgyzstan – it was there that these torpedoes were tested, on Lake Issyk-Kul, during Soviet times.

After the Union’s collapse, experts think that Kyrgyzstan might have sold armaments to China, which in turn supplied them to Iran. However, Kanybek Tabaldiev, a senior representative of the Kirghiz company which produces torpedoes and other military technology, categorically denied the involvement of the Kirghiz military-industrial complex in selling modern weapons technology to Iran.

Poor Tabaldiev. Must be afraid of 'blowback' now that their arms dealings have been brought to light. The Chinese also will soon trot out a statement lambasting anyone for accusing them of anything so nefarious.

Any rate, if true...then China also has this Torpedo-Rocket technology. The USN needs to assume the worst...and be prepared.

President Says Iran Suffered 'Injustices,' Urges Restitution
Vision of the Islamic Republic of Iran Network 2
Tuesday, April 4, 2006

President (Mahmud Ahmadinezhad) has said that the Islamic Republic of Iran would protect the nation's irrefutable rights by adhering to international laws and treaties. He stressed that the enemies of Iran would not be able to stop the national will.

In a meeting with the employees of the Presidential Foundations, Mr Ahmadinezhad highlighted the damage that the country had sustained, following the suspension of its nuclear research. He pointed out that by failing to honor their legal and international obligation they (Europeans) had committed a grave injustice against Iranian nation. He urged them to make restitution for their harmful actions including the imposed (Iraq-Iran war), sanctions, pressures and terrors. He added that they must apologize to the Iranian people.

President Ahmadinezhad described Iranian nation as a God-loving and justice-seeking people. He said the world was hungry for justice. He stressed that Iranians had the duty to strive for a model Islamic society.

Iran's putting on quite a propaganda show...

New Missiles, 'Air to Surface Bomb' Tested During Sixth Day of Iranian Exercises
Islamic Republic of Iran News Network Television (IRINN)
Wednesday,April 5, 2006

The sixth day of the big exercises named after the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, has begun in the general area of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

In this stage, the 100,000-square mile arena of the exercises witnessed a display of the power of the (Islamic Revolution) Guards Corps's (IRGC's) marines and extensive operations by the IRGC's special speedboats.

In this stage of the exercises, heliborne operations are to be carried out in the framework of two bases belonging to the hypothetical enemy and to the home forces.

Today, Pahbad pilotless planes will also be carrying out air and sea reconnaissance operations and the gathering of information about the situation of the enemy's bases, and the Be'sat Missile Base and the Nasr Air Base will tackle the surface vessels of the hypothetical enemy.

Yesterday, too, on the fifth day of the exercises named after the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, long-range cruise missiles were successfully tested from the helicopters of the IRGC navy in the blue waters of the Persian Gulf. Previously, these missiles were being fired from speedboats in coastal waters. After extensive research and tests, now they are being installed on and fired from helicopters. The missile's range is 200 km and it can approach the enemy to the closest point without being identified and to hit a range of targets. (Video shows helicopters and naval vessels in action)

(Tehran Islamic Republic of Iran News Network Television (IRINN) in Persian at 0758 GMT showed about a minute of new footage from the exercises with the caption: "Testing of two new missiles and an air to surface bomb in the Noble Prophet exercises, displaying the capabilities of the regular armed forces and the IRGC in the waters of the Persian Gulf.")

Russian foreign minister evades question on torpedo test in Iran

Text of report by Russian news agency RIA Novosti

Bratislava, 5 April: Sergey Lavrov (foreign minister) has not confirmed the "Russian origin" of the torpedo tested by Iran.

"I don't know who tested whose weapons. Many Western countries sold weapons to Iran. I saw TV footage. I am no expert on sea torpedoes," the minister said in Bratislava on Wednesday (5 April) when asked by journalists whether it was true that the torpedo which Iran said it tested several days ago had been made in Russia.
