On premium cable, "Penn & Teller" (Showtime, 10 p.m.) starts a fourth season by taking on the Boy Scouts of America, charging their anti-gay bias came after the Mormons hijacked the organization in the '70s. Brash humor keeps this lively series from becoming too strident

The Mormons joined the BSA because of it's policies; the BSA didn't form those policies to attract the Mormons.
As I've said 2 or 3 times already, PRIVATE organizations are welcome to discriminate however they please. The BSA is NOT a private organization, they've been taking government handouts since the early 1900's and continue to do so today.
Statement by the founder of Free Republic:
In our continuing fight for freedom, for America and our constitution and against totalitarianism, socialism, tyranny, terrorism, etc., Free Republic stands firmly on the side of right, i.e., the conservative side. Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support the strategy of taking the fight to the enemy as opposed to allowing the enemy the luxury of conducting their attacks on us at home on their terms and on their schedule.
Therefore, we wholeheartedly support the Bush Doctrine of pre-emptive strikes on known terrorist states and organizations that are believed to present a clear threat to our freedom or national security. We support our military, our troops and our Commander-in-Chief and we oppose turning control of our government back over to the liberals and socialists who favor appeasement, weakness, and subserviency. We do not believe in surrendering to the terrorists as France, Germany, Russia and Spain have done and as Kerry, Kennedy, Clinton and the Democrats, et al, are proposing.
As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.
Free Republic is private property. It is not a government project, nor is it funded by government or taxpayer money. We are not a publicly owned entity nor are we an IRS tax-free non-profit organization. We pay all applicable taxes on our income. We are not connected to or funded by any political party, news agency, or any other entity. We sell no merchandise, product or service, and we offer no subscriptions or paid memberships. We accept no paid advertising or promotions. We are funded solely by donations (non tax deductible gifts) from our readers and participants.
We aggressively defend our God-given and first amendment guaranteed rights to free speech, free press, free religion, and freedom of association, as well as our constitutional right to control the use and content of our own personal private property. Despite the wailing of the liberal trolls and other doom & gloom naysayers, we feel no compelling need to allow them a platform to promote their repugnant and obnoxious propaganda from our forum. Free Republic is not a liberal debating society. We are conservative activists dedicated to defending our rights, defending our constitution, defending our republic and defending our traditional American way of life.
Our God-given liberty and freedoms are not negotiable.
May God bless and protect our men and women in uniform fighting for our freedom and may God continue to bless America.
Jim Robinson
The Boy Scouts of America most certainly is a private organization. Your ranting against that fact does not change it.
If taking government handouts stripped a private entity of its rights, then every person who has ever received a tax refund while making less than $60,000 a year would have no individual rights remaining. "Government Handouts" is the way the IRS does business.
Oh, and where's the evidence of your assertion that the BSA has "been taking government handouts" in the first place? Am I to believe that just because you say so?
DO NOT GO TO THE LINK if you are offended by bad language.

Wow! Very impressive.
I call 'em as I see 'em, and on this site I see lots and lots of hateful Christians.
I'm on this site because I am a very conservative person on almost every issue, I am not however religious, and I find many ideas expressed by Christians on this site to be antithical to what I consider freedom and liberty and I have no problem saying it out loud, it just happens I'm a minority here.
The one who talks is a militant atheist.
I've never found their brand of "humor" particularly funny. They can pound sand.
For the most part, I like what Penn and Teller have done with their show; but when their irrational hatred of Christianity comes to the fore, I tune out.
"even though experts say that homosexuals are no more likely to be pedophiles than heterosexuals"
A.) one can find an expert to say anything.
B.) even if it is true that homosexuals are not any more likely to be pedophiles (and I have my doubts), it is not relevant. I assure you that the same people who advocate the ban on homosexual scout leaders would also ban adult straight men being in charge of groups of young girls.
Hateful = Has the audacity to disagree with me.
That's the same critera liberals use for "hate."
I, as a conservative Christian, am glad you expressed your opinion. It will keep us mindful of how we choose our words. I would ask that you try to keep in mind that even the most ardent follower of Christ slips evry now and then.
Often, hateful speech is the most seemingly cathardic response to an attack (whether real or merely perceived). I have been guilty of this, as I am sure you have.
All that having been said, disagreement over morality in and of itself is not hateful.
I became an Eagle Scout in April 1972. My troop was sponsored by PTA at an elementary school. The only difference I could see between my troop and the ones sponsored by LDS wards is a higher percentage of Eagle Scouts from the LDS wards. A smaller troop allows the leaders more time for guidance. The downside is that the smaller troop misses out on leadership skills and a breadth of age/skill that comes with a larger organization.
My dad was an Eagle Scout. My nephew in San Diego just passed his board of review last month.
Arrrgghhh! What horrible spelling in that last post. Sorry for not proofreading first.
I was a member of a troop sponsored by a Methodist church in Springfield, VA. Our troop members included a wide variety of protestant denominations, Catholic and Jewish. The scout summer camp provided services for each and every faith present at the camp.
***Penn & Teller are libertarians, hence why they go after the lunatic left and the lunatic right*** I see. And just where in that does the BSA fall?
