Voters want Blair gone by year end
Herald Sun ^ | 4 April 2006

Posted on 04/03/2006 4:43:48 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

MORE than half of Britain's voters believe Prime Minister Tony Blair has run out of steam and should leave office by the end of this year, The Times reported in Tuesday's edition.

Nearly three fifths (57 percent) of those polled think the Labour Party leader has "run out of steam and is unlikely to achieve anything else as PM", the newspaper said.

On the other hand, some 37 percent agreed that "there are plenty of things that Blair can still achieve before he stands down as PM".

Blair dismissed renewed talk Monday of a rift with his finance minister Gordon Brown as nothing more than an April Fool's "soap opera" following reports they had fallen out over strategy for the forthcoming local elections.

The 52-year-old leader has declared his intention not to stand for a fourth term of office but has so far not given a firm date about when he will leave Downing Street and hand over power to Brown.

He and his party have been rocked in recent months by a number of political controversies, fuelling speculation that he will go sooner rather than later.

The Times survey of 1,503 adults was conducted between March 31 and April 2 by pollsters Populus.

It sounds like Tony and George could get together and commiserate the "gratitude of a nation", huh??

Sounds like the British Press posts their hopes just like the MSM.

I will not be sorry to see Blair go but the thought of Brown horrifies me. I want rid of this socialist government full stop.

Blair (aside from his unwavering support of the WOT) is an utter disaster as a PM. Slowly chipping away at rights and freedoms in Britain and introducing stealth tax after stealth tax (via chancellor Brown, who is even further to the left).

They don't say "huh?" in Britain. Use "eh?" instead [smirk].

No kidding. And it's always amazed me that the people of the UK, after what they went through in World War 2, allowed things to get to this point(the literal dictatorship of socialism). While the same thing could be argued for the U.S; we weren't buzz-bombed 24 hours a day. The war actually came to their soil.

Since most of what we read about Blair in the US relates to foreign policy issues, where he has been a staunch ally, we tend to have little awareness of what he is doing domestically. Although I certainly understand your sentiment, it would almost feel like ingratitude for those of us on this side of the pond to wish him ill. And your profile page is wonderful! I had to scroll through the whole thing!

Brown will be the end of Labour. He's petulant, ill-tempered and has no finesse. Labour will be tossed out in the next election.

Regards, Ivan

LOL at first I thought you were American as you had lots of American pics on your home page, then I saw Ashford in Kent, I was based there for while.

Used to go running in the forests there next to the old base.

Hope you are right Ivan and I hope Cameron's stance on most things is more an election ploy because if it is not I cannot really see much difference between him and Blair.

I know Liam Fox and David Davies were not media friendly enough to have gone with for leader but their policies are nearer mine. Well in truth John Redwood is nearer mine than any of them.

Where were you actually based?

Was there an American base near Ashford at one time?

re :Was there an American base near Ashford at one time?

Yes there was but it was handed over to us.

I was based at Templer Barracks just outside Ashford, before I was deployed to Bosnia 1994.
