During a question-and-answer sessions, the audience laughed approvingly when Pianka offered the bird flu as another vehicle toward achieving his goal. They also chuckled when he suggested it was time to sterilize everyone on Earth. These people are just unbelievably twisted.

I want to hear a different first hand account. I wondering if this talk wasnt a rehash of the theory that the earth may be exceeding its carrying capacity for population with disastrous consequences becoming more probable.

That probably goes too far, but a planet with only 1 billion people, like it was in 1900 would be a lot more comfortable.

Yes. But here is the thing that matters:
TENURED.
And honored with an plum academic spot.

It would be interesting to know how many children the good professor
has sired.
Just to see if he's part of the solution or part of the problem.

Following the question-and-answer session, Mims says "almost every scientist, professor and college student present stood to their feet and vigorously applauded the man who had enthusiastically endorsed the elimination of 90 percent of the human population. Some even cheered. They all think THEY are to be spared while some other poor slob gets the ax.
Can you say eugenics, boys and girls?
ps. Many scientists (myself included) think this is a stupid idea.

standing ovation I suspect if Pianka suggested that the extermination efforts begin with those in attendance the reception would've been quite different.

This fossil hasn't managed to maneuver his undoubtedly shriveling brain around the concept that his heroes - Thomas Malthus and Paul Ehrlich - have been proven wrong entirely (Paul still can't get over Julian winning that bet!). Hopefully he is put out to pasture where he can drool away his remaining years.

Yep, there is a lot missing here.
We don't have a transcript. We don't have the professor's name. We don't have the paper he was presenting and we only have one second hand account.

"We're no better than bacteria," Mims quoted Pianka as saying in his condemnation of the human race, which, he claimed, is overpopulating the Earth. Its unfortunate that people are valued so little when there is a God that loves them so much.
