Yep, there is a lot missing here.
We don't have a transcript. We don't have the professor's name. We don't have the paper he was presenting and we only have one second hand account.

Well, here's a start at filling in the blanks:

The speech Mims heard was delivered by Eric R. Pianka, a lizard
expert from the University of Texas. It is recounted in detail in
the latest issue of the Citizen Scientist.

This souunds provocative enough that some conservative commentator will
do some fact-checking.
