Hill conservatives warn Bush of amnesty anger

House conservatives yesterday issued a dire warning to President Bush and Republican leadership that they will pay a devastating political price if they proceed with a guest-worker program or anything resembling amnesty for illegal aliens before securing the borders and enforcing existing immigration laws.

POTUS missed the golden opportunity on 9-12-01 to seal the border with federal troops.

Nobody, save for the ACLU and LaRaza would have dared to complain.

His position hasn't changed. It really is up to Congress to write tough legislation. Doubt they will.

IMHO it will be voters in non-border states, who swing the issue to Republicans.

San Diego, and most of southern Cal, are now so far along the illegal immigration curve, that the reconquistas have gained sufficient political power (eg: Mayor of Los Angeles Villaraigosa - former MEChA member, and the speaker of the state Assembly whatzisname, who's a shameless advocate for illegals) to now set the agenda, and elect more allies.

THAT is why the federal government, needs to strengthen border protection. States have already lost all power to do anything. The federal government - the BUSH ADMINISTRATION - need to take the lead. Not by appeasement. By leading.

It really is only Arnold, at this point, who's standing between California, and the abyss.

When the rest of the American public is greeted on national television by huge mobs waving Mexican flags and shouting anti-USA slogans. That's the image which will change the debate.

We need more arrogance and racism, from the "reconquistas". Simple as that. The more arrogant they become, the faster the debate will be joined, and the laws strengthened.

President Bush needs to get with the program, or properly fund the Border Patrol and then get out of the way.

I have no problem with people who wish to work inside our system of laws, and come here legally, for whatever purpose.

I have a large, intractable problem with those whose first act is to scoff at our laws, and then further compound the problem.

But even so, set that aside, and cut to the chase:

Just what is coming across our all-too-pourous borders? Everyone talks about Nukes, or WMD, or anthrax... but, how about mumps, or antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis?

Whats with the republican leadership and trying to be bipartisan, when no matter what they do the Democrats attack them for it unrelentlessly. Bush could tomorrow call for Teddy Kennedy to be named Emperor of America for life and the democrats would say it wasn't long enough. I shouldn't say this, Bush might read it and try it.

The last time I argued over this on FR was about a year ago, and there were a number of comments that claimed turning the illegals into 'guest workers' isn't amnesty. So, have we all dropped the pretense? That's fine by me!

The legislation is just like 1986. It's sad that were still at this position 20 years later.

You're exactly right because our votes have been diluted.
Demographics have changed dramatically.

Look at CA's damn two senators: Boxer and Feinstein.

Two dates are coming up fast: May Day, (May 1st) Commie workers day

and Cinco de Mayo (May 5th).

I anticipate perhaps five full days of outrageous and intimidating 'protests' that could quickly become riots.

If that happens, Arnold will have to declare a state of emergency and call for troops.

ALL Americans will see this on TV and MAYBE that will impact the elections in November or force the current Congress to pass TOUGH immigration legislation.

The shape of politics to come.

Democrats will break apart into two sects. Left and Lefter (think "Dumb and Dumber".)

Republicans will become the business/corporate globalist branch of the DNC. Ignoring the will of the people and abandoning Conservatives in favor of elite corporate globalists.

Not that I think this isn't possible...I live in California, and I would hope it doesn't occur next me or it doesn't harm people physically.

I think the 'don't tread on me' flag is truely American.

I'm libertarianish is ways, but there's key issues like immigration where I'm a solid conservative. Ultimately I think small 'l' libertarians and conservatives will realize we're both against the same enemies...and we're fairly close in ways. The rats and rhinos are our enemies.

All in all, this is superb news. The article does make a little lame attempt in the very middle to give equal time to the RINOS, witness this quote from Uber RINO Mccain:

"Our reforms need to reflect the realities," Mr. McCain said. "We need guest workers in this country. There are some jobs Americans are simply unwilling to do."

I think it was Thomas Sowell who pointed out that illegals make up the majority in no profession, therefore there are by definition Americans doing every kind of job in the USA today. There are NO jobs which Americans won't do, and they could stand to get paid a bit more for the jobs they are doing!!

But Mccain's big lie about jobs Americans don't want, grows into a bigger lie about jobs Americans are "simply unwilling to do". It's not true, there is not one category of work today that ONLY illegal Mexicans do and NO Americans do, proof that Americans will and do perform every kind of job there is.

When I called FEMA after my roof was torn off, and instructions were given in Spanish and English, I knew Mexico had won the war.

What war? The commander-in-chief-select surrendered before any debate could be brought up about the war!

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.
