The price of gasoline could rise this summer because of supply problems from the phaseout of a fuel additive found to contaminate groundwater, government and industry officials said at a Senate hearing Wednesday.
The additive, methyl tertiary butyl ether, or MTBE, accounts for about 10% of the volume of every gallon of gasoline with which it is blended -- or 1.4% of the nationwide supply -- but refiners plan to stop using it next month because Congress refused to grant them protection from lawsuits.

Great pic---I love it !
$2.699 average DFW but many stations are running out. I had to go to 4 stations this morning to find gas.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't the Republicans been in control for quite a number of years now???
Around 2.50 in Houston. Not only the prices may go out of sight - Houston is one place that may even have a shortage this summer.
Same here in NYC...Today I paid exactly that, $2.79. Like I said, annex Mexico, solve the illegal problem once and for all, and we can take over the gulf all the way down the line. Drill that beeyatch to death.
"SO QUITCHURBITCHIN"
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.............
OK maybe with high gas prices the illegals won't drive up north, but oh wait those millions already here can't go home it's just hopeless high gas prices and millions of beaners burning our flag ..thanks G BUSH.
$2.50..how I wish...$2.79 for regular here in SoCal..wait let me check across the street...BRB...nope now $2.93 for regular.
This is a good thing. MTBE is really nasty stuff. Saving money at the expense of contaminating ground water with this stuff is not worth it. I also wonder if this crap has anything to do with why Gas goes bad so quickly now.
I paid $2.59 for regular in northern Alabama this morning.

But the problem began way back in 1973 when the first embargo of oil began under Gerald Ford. Then Little Jimmy Carter really screwed things up with the Iranians,(and his plans to ration gas). The price has been going up since. So has the wages to pay for them.
See my earlier post #20.
"But we can't drill ANWR or off the Florida coast."
What on earth does drilling for oil which would take years to come on line have to do with this problem? The issue is an additive, which the article said is a problem which should be corrected in 2 to 5 months. Now that ethanol is getting good prices, there should be a lot more of it in the next few years, than the 10-year development pace for ANWR could allow.
In addition this is a regulatory problem that government could correct. Relax the gasoline standards for a few months, or lower the gasoline tax temporarily.
***and i use to think these guys were behind times, and they are the only ones with reliable transportation *(**
I'm ready for it. I'll just break out the old coal forge and go back into horseshoeing. I still have all my equipment.
(Lord I don't want to do that! Backbreaking!)
Summers here and the price of gas jumped up again. I'm so surprised.
April 1 was the date for most stations to switch to the "summer blend" which won't contain MTBE this year.
I think this is only the opening salvo.
RINOs have torpedoed every attempt the Real Republicans have made to address the US energy problem since 1994.
Ethanol isn't really a good solution. Not only does it need a great deal of energy to create, but you can't pump it through pipelines.
Even it was free, it's going to be a logistical nightmare.
Even worse...imagine the cost of heating your home next year.
%0 years ago the price of a gallon o regular was about $0.25 A gallon, but you are still on point. While I was in Germany last week, I paid $6.00 a gallon.
Oats are not cheap.
