Too many people don't understand the history of flags as military banners or even why we fly them at all. They are more than just "symbols."
I don't see it as "speech" as much as "disposal of abandoned property."
It wasn't just "some American students" it was ROTC members who were in charge of the flagpole. The first time they put it up, the ROTC took it down and returned it to them.
Then they put it up again.
After that, the flag was retrieved again by the ROTC and disposed of.

We can help this kid. From what the father (Greg) said over the radio, the familily is extremely humbled by all of the support.

I heard on Rick Roberts Show 760 KFMB (available on the net)that shool officials in Oceanside California banned all flags from the district as they could be used for symbolic fighting. These people need to be fired immediately. American Taxpayers and their children should not only be allowed but should be encouraged to be patriots, They should have banned flags from Mexico.
What the hell?
If they burn an American flag they call it "Freedom of Expression". If they burn a Mexican flag it's arson.

Come on are you really that ignorant? Wells fargo didnt do it, the family opened the account. Wells fargo, or any bank, is not going to do it on their own.
This is about helping this family who took a stand for America and our freedom - negative posts that make no sense do not help the cause.

I have been following with some interest and growing concern the activites at your High School as regards the young man who burned the Mexican flag.
We face serious challlenges in our nation due to illegal immigration and this has been exapserated lately by the illegal immigrants themselves protesting with an "in your face" attitude about their legal status and their so-called value to our Republic. For me it is not only a shame, it is an outrage that these individuals feel emboldened to demand our sovereign terrotory (as evidenced amply by their deomonstrations), demand legal status and citizen privileges despite their illegal activity, and raise their own national flags (mainly Mexican) over our public institutions.
As I understand it, this flag was raised at your school and the ROTC cadets responsible for the flag pole (as they should be) took it down and returned it to those who raised it indicating it should not happen again. When they did it again, the ROTC student took it down again and disposed of it.
In any case, this young man, again, as I understand it, did not instigate protest or demonstration, he simply responded to it. What was occurring was an afront to any loyal American. That this young man should be arrested on arson charges is also an affront. I want you to know, as a father who has put five children through our public schools, I support this young man and his family and will lend my financial support to their legal battle, a battle that should not exist in the first place in my opinion.
With all due respect sir, isn't it strange and very hypocritical that when someone burns an American flag it is somehow called free speech, but when this patriotic American young man, after attempts to keep our flag from being defamed, burns a Mexican flag that is the instrument of the American flag's defamation, that it is called arson?
Shame on all of those involved with attempting to prosecute, shame, or punish this young man...and rest assured, the people I know, all over this country, are not going to sit back for it. These illegal aliens, their children, and those who support them in these reprehensible demonstrations have all pushed for a bridge far, far too far.

Somebody is being really stupid over this. I did something far worse than what this kid did as a HS student, and didn't spend a minute in jail.
Of course, 40 years does make a bit of a difference...
I think we are seeing the local politics at work here. Hijinx, I imagine non-hispanics are a minority in this area. If that is so, the local politicians, school board members and prosecutors likely see this the other way. The Latinos are their constituency so policies will be followed that go in that direction. This isn't stupidity on the part of the schools. It's calculated, it's deliberate, it's locally popular and it's good politics for re-election. This is what the rest of the country will face if something isn't done the right way.
What has happened to Travis's life is what all of us will be experiencing unless the illegals are sent home and NOT given amnesty. This is spoken by a LEGAL immigrant who appreciates the values of his adopted land.
Maybe I should have said, thats ironic.
Maybe they'd open their account elsewhere if they knew the truth about wells fargo. It does no good to support a bank with our money who then turns around and uses it to destroy our country.
THis incident is because of the patriotism of the locals and those who files charges. And their patriotism isn't to America. Welcome to the future of the rest of the country.

I agree and I am all for boycots against these types of companies, but perhaps they did it because Wells Fargo is national and there are alot of them - to make it easy to donate. And also may not have many banks to choose from in this small city.
But I thought flag burning was what patriotic Americans did to celebrate free speech. I'm so confused!
