LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will face protests and Muslim resentment over the Iraq war when she visits northern England this week.

Rice had been scheduled to visit a mosque in the city until the invitation was withdrawn on Wednesday. No one at the Masjid al Hidayah mosque was available for comment but the Foreign Office confirmed the cancellation, saying it was a pity.
The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB), the largest lobby group for the country's 1.6 million Muslims, said there was widespread opposition to U.S. foreign policy and Rice's visit.
"This particular U.S. administration has upset many Muslims in the UK and around the world ... so it is not particularly surprising that the visit to a Blackburn mosque has had to be canceled," MCB spokesman Inayat Bunglawala said.

Maldon in Essex on river Blackwater(UK) quaint English fishing town pop 30,000 or so mentioned in Doomsday book... famous battle in 10th century with Vikings also in HG Wells 'War of the Worlds '( the tripods marching across the Essex marshes ). They !! want to build a Mosque overlooking the town and call the local believers(all 7 of them) to prayer 5 times a day from the minorets. Not bloody likely.Don't believe what you hear. There may be 1.6 million Muslims here but there are 53 million of us.

As an ex news photog I can see the impact this pic has..thats why it was taken and published but it didn't take me long to realise that 'todays newspapers are tomorrows fish and chip wrappings' ( old English saying ) Anyway after the London tube and bus outrages the worm is turning here. I'll take a raincheck on the coffee, wife and I will have a nice cup of tea..same would have gone for you guys if you hadn't dumped it all in Charleston Harbour. God Bless America.

I don't know if you are aware in the United States that the inquest(coronors court) into the deaths in Basra Iraq of six military policemen (Redcaps)from our local garrison Colchester, finished yesterday in London.They were chased by a mob of 500, overpowered, beaten and then forced to kneel one by one and shot in the back of the head.
In case there are any misunderstandings and whatever the media might proport this incident hasn't gone down very well over here..to say the least.

Wonder if they mean that Rice was on the muslim's home turf in England or if the war in Iraq was? AlReuters is screwed up.
We don't have any 'Muslim Turf 'in England. All our grass is green.
