I know if I was a reporter, or anything other than a soldier in uniform, over there you could bet I'd be as native looking as possible. It'd be a pretty dumb (and worse, ineffective) reporter -stringer or superstar- ho didn't try to blend in.

Looks like she put on a few pounds. The Fallujah Fifteen perhaps?Well, she was sitting on a nice couch the whole time.

Well, there's going native - and there's going native. As I said, most females seem to do the headscarf thing, but they sure don't go for the "full Islam," as she did. Nor do they take Muslim names, as she did ("Daughter of Mohammed").

There have been a lot of unkind posts on this thread. As I was reading some of them I thought what Jill's parents would think if they read some of them. As a parent myself, I know that offspring do not always make sensible choices and that beliefs go through change over time.
This woman, despite her choices, is a human being and an American. Heaven only knows what she has experienced before, during, and after her "captivity" (or whatever it was.) I vote for mercy until all the facts are in. I wholeheartedly agree and I'm ashamed of several FReepers on this thread.

Ooooh! Your description of your home life is wonderful! Is there anything better than Turner Classics and a good book?

Well she certainly looks the part in her Arab garb in the online photos of her. All she lacks is her personal copy of the Koran. Probably in her purse with her hidden beltbomb.

Source, please? Haven't seen anything about her converting (not that I would doubt it, be ie due to Stockholm syndrome or just her being an Amherst grad)

Expelled, or deployed? Looks to me like she's just TDY.

I don't think she has publicly converted, but external indications would lead one to think that she had (prior to the kidnapping). Most of the information, with links, is someplace back on this thread.
However, I recall it from earlier discussions. For some reason, I followed this situation, probably because I am getting really sick of these leftist broads going off and faking kidnappings to collect money for their Muslim heroes, completely disregarding the lives of the innocent suckers around them - such as Jill Carroll's Iraqi translator or the Italian secret services guy shot to death during the "rescue" of the Italian "journalist."

Don't see anything except some speculation, can't find the 'daughter of M." verified anywhere. A headscarf alone doesn't make her a Mooslimb.
Not that I really care, just wondered if there really was a source for it.

I was wondering if anyone else had noticed the same thing. Muslim men seem to be intent on ugly makeovers.
To: xcamel
She's a very lucky woman, statistically speaking. Perhaps she promised to reagle us with tales of how "human" the kidnappers were?

After her kidnapping, her father sent a message to the kidnappers:
"I wish to speak to the men holding my daughter. I hope that you heard the conviction in Jill's voice when speaking of your country. That was real. She is not your enemy.
When you release her alive, she will tell your story with the same conviction. Alive my daughter will not be silenced.
Yours is a story which can be told to the world by Jill. Allowing her to live and releasing her will enable her to do so.
As you know by now, my daughter is honest, sincere, and of good heart. Her respect for the Iraqi people has been shown through her words as a reporter.
Jill started to tell your story, please, allow her to finish it.
Through the media if necessary, advise her family and me how to initiate a dialogue which will lead to her release." She was spreading propaganda for the terrorists before her "kidnapping." She continues to spread their propaganda. At what point (if any) does it become politically correct to acknowledge these facts?

I find myself not 'caring enough' that she has been released. It's wonderful, I am much happier she is alive... I'm happier for the 'miner', other Iraqi hostages...I feel badly saying it, but I feel she was played....she had "Stockholm syndrome" BEFORE she was a hostage.
I can't put my finger on it, but something is not 'quite right' ... nothing really definitive and I don't think this is "IT", she was all too willing to wear "muslim attire" BEFORE her kidnapping. I wish somebody could point out my *exact* feeling on this.

Parent can do all they can to raise a kid right and still have a disaster. Parents also make their own mistakes. There are so many judgement calls.
It may not have all sunk in. She may not have known the translator was killed. I'm sure they told her only what they wanted her to know. There was probably a lot of confusion when she was taken. If she was in on it, she probably didn't count on anyone being killed. In the long run, she will have to pay for all her mistakes. The timing is God's, not ours.

Dunno, anyone not wearing Muslim attire in that area (except our soldiers) would have to be pretty stupid.
I loved reading about Sir Richard Francis Burton and his sojourn to Mecca....
