Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

I don't think all the illegal aliens will fit on that statue's island.
But let's give it a try and find out.

No one I have ever known wants to stop immigration - the word prople keep leaving out of the conversation is: ILLEGAL.
Even the statue's statement does not mean people get to sneak into the country - the statement says opportunity - not illegality. People have an opportunity here to have a new life where anything is possible. Many LEGAL IMMIGRANTS founded this country - NOT ILLEGAL ONES.
WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO GET IT ..??

Funny, I don't see a bleeping thing in that great prose about bringing your angry, american hating, mexicans with an attitude!

Its sad that for some the citation of a plaque constitutes a valid argument in the complex immigration debate.

Emma Lazarus wrote a very nice poem, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with our immigration law.
Ellis Island is the symbol of immigrants who came to this country legally, and who wished to live as law-abiding Americans. Not wave the Mexican flag and scream anti-American rhetoric in the streets.

Give me your perverts, your pedophiles, your huddled masses yearning to get laid, the wretched refuse of your teeming slum.
Send these, the satanists, the traitors to me.
The City of San Francisco wants YOU!

quite correct -- if you want to live in America, get American citizenship, then BE American -- all the legals are PROUD of gaining their citizenship and all are extremely good Americans. Not so the illegals.

And every Illegal Alien in this country is giving Lady Liberty the finger.

I don't believe it says "Send them illegally, to avoid screening for infectous diseases, to be supported by stealing from those who came here legally, to hate this country and be loyal to their country of origin, and change this country into a slum of their own."
Correct me if I'm wrong.

I guarantee you, 95% of all illegals in the US don't give a rats arse about the Statue of Liberty. They want the gringos, aka "infidels", off their lands of California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas.

Exactly when did the poem by Miss Lazarus become enacted into Federal Law?
I must have missed that.
Can you cite a date and give me the Statute number?
Thanks in advance.

I'm glad Lady Liberty is holding a tablet showing the caption JULY IV MDCCLXXVIJuly 4, 1776. That is the date of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, the foundation of all our laws, which people should learn to obey, especially business and government leaders who allow illegal immigrants to break the law with impunity.

That poem was added later by
Emma Lazarus, and was not a part of the statue at the beginning.
