Finally, the details have been nailed down!
The Eaker family is inviting FReepers to a Texas Cowboy Memorial Shoot.
The date will be May 6th, starting time will be 10:00 a.m.. The location will be sent via FReepmail (if you are interested in attending send me a message). The cost will be $15.00 per person.
After the shoot, everyone is invited back to The Compound to stuff themselves with TheMom's Kick-Ass Enchilada's (it is advised to wear stretch pants).

Take pictures and tell whoever wins to keep "my" trophy clean , safe and shiny for next year. The inscription on the trophy ought to be "Gunner won again!"
just to keep the thing current every year. I'm just sayin'...

Today I received the following FReepmail from Houston Curmudgeon. I think his idea is a wonderful one. I told him
I would pose his question regarding what the plate should say to you folks. I would also like to present a traveling trophy to be presented in ElRoy's name to the best shot with the biggest caliber gun each time the event is held. It's a chrome drilling bit, small and about 15 #'s. Perhaps I could get a plate made for it ... what should it say?
As much as I hate to suggest it, you're going to have to limit the possibilities to hand-held or at least shoulder-mounted weaponry, or I'm gonna cheat and win.
I don't think I can make it this year, but I'll see if I can rearrange my pre-Momorial Day schedule and sneak back home to Texas for the fest. But if not, I'll touch off a few for ya at the Wyoming Appleseed shoot.

How the heck did I forget to put you on the ping list?
What the heck are you doing in Wyoming?
I don't think the gun range allows those types of weapons . . . I'll check though.

You got us there Archy!
If we limit it to shoulder-mounted weaponry I can bring the .50BMG and one round.
I should do ok with it on the pistol range!

If we limit it to shoulder-mounted weaponry I can bring the .50BMG and one round. Accuracy is also a factor. It should be the deciding factor.
I've been practicing.

if you'll let me know where to send fifteen bucks, my AK and I'd be pleased to be counted among the "in absentia" participants.

The $15.00 is for range fees. If you promise to spend it at your local range on the 6th, I promise to make you one of our "in absentia" participants.

can't I send you $15 for the after-action beer fund?
;)
the local range is outdoors, and doesn't have per-use fees, just an annual membership fee. would investing (and expending) that money in ammo on the 6th qualify?

I haven't read the whole thread- but I wonder if the praying sort of folks would be interested in having a small group prayer for TC and his family while you are all together in his honor.
I really, really miss TC. :] I hope you all have a fantastic time. I thought about trying to get there- but it is a bit too far for me right now.
