[history]
Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.
Carthago delenda est
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

What an excellent exercise drill, JR.
Were such a thing to come to pass, only the COLLEGES and U's would be active communicants during that 30-day pre-election term. And then the MSM would cover the "support for Democrats" exclusively. Colleges and U's have special "caveats" for free (liberal) speech that no one else has.

What is wrong with John McCain and other elected officials who want to regulate bloggers? Are they out of their minds??? They will never get my vote for anything.

Until they realize that the law affects them also and their site is taken down. Then listen to the howls and gnashing of teeth.

Move the facilities for the site over the border to Canada, Australia or to the UK. Then they can't touch it.

This can't possibly be for real. And how is it constitutional?Well, it isn't Constitutional......
I wonder if FReepers could start a class action suit for deprivation of rights under color of law?
We could do one national suit, then do civil suits for every one of the States until all McCain has left is a dirty pair of underwear!
What did Jim Rob call him??
Oh, yeah -

Even if the law takes its full force, I'm not shutting up. Our lawmakers may have to be shamed by the sight of people being arrested for speaking their minds, or simply overwhelmed by the number of people who refuse to shut up, but I'm not going to let some idiotsic time restriction decide when and where I make my opinions known.
Amen! AMEN!!!!!

I'm not going anywhere and not doing anything special. No offshore servers or napster style software for FR. When the time comes, we keep on posting. Harder and louder than ever. This battle has to go to the Supreme Court. I don't even want the blogger exemption to pass. The unconstitutional McCain-Feingold must be struck down in its entirety!! It's all or nothing.Agreed. All this talk about moving to the Bahamas is just running from the problem. DC serves We The People, and they need a reminder.

There is nothing 'conservative' about MacCain. He has continually demonstrated he will used his power of elected office to punish any and all who he deems his personal enemy.
He is the male form and the opposite side of Hillry they have much in common. Divide and conquer.
To: Jim Robinson
Point taken!!!
This guy shouldn't be the local dogcatcher, much less a senator. I don't want him anywhere near the White House.
