Now hear this:
Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.
That is all.
The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

It's election time, news has revolted and turned either cable or internet, this now becomes the scarlet CFR.

Thanks. Already made my calls etc.
I'm resourceful enough to track the info down.
But a percentage of people will send an email or fax if the info is handy but not otherwise.
Just wanted it at the top of the thread in the header every refresh so that percentage would more likely send stuff in.
Thanks.

Unless I'm very much mistaken the Republicans do not have control of the house and senate. I believe they need 60 votes for that which they don't have.

Why are mad at John McCain - Bush signed this bill.
McCain is a known backstabber but he couldnt of passed this without the presidents endorsement.
Bush is the one we need to attack - he only has a veto pen for countries wanting to exploit America through our ports.

McCain has presidential ambitions. Bush should have never signed this bill, but he's not running for re-election. That's water under the bridge now. Let's move forward and kill this. Maybe by us really getting down and dirty, we can change this country. I'm slowly losing hope, but, there's still a spark there.
To: Indy Pendance
"Bush should have never signed this bill, "
Bush is the problem - he allowed evil to prosper by signing this. He continues to allow our borders to be wide open. Spending is through the roof.
Bush is the problem not McCain - he has a bully pulpit to champion conservative principles and yet does very little to confront our social ills.
I dont want to hear about his so called attempts at stopping evil - as they say walk the walk.
We were destined to go to war with Iraq - democrat or repulican we would of went. So I dont buy the he combating terror crap while he lets terrorists and criminals freely walk into America.

I have written a letter of outrage to my Senator McCain (puke) with carbon copies to President Bush and my Good Senator, Jon Kyl.
An earlier message on this thread suggested that JimRob should REALLY shut down the forum for a while to make an impression as to the seriousness of this matter (with a message explaining why and what's going on for anyone who has missed this one). I agree that would get everyones attention like nothing else.

I disagree, shutting down the forum is EXACTLY what they want. I say, stay open, no matter what.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
To: billbears
Can't say I disagree with your statements...my point is, though, have you taken any action as a citizen to try and have McCain see that he's burning up bridges with those he pretends to lead into a Presidential election? I email his office regularly, but given that I am not an AZ resident, I get the usual form letter...regardless, I am doing my part for the Conservative cause. He can ignore me...but I won't go away. And Rudy G needs to come to the Right, or he will lose me.

Well, I wish Bush had vetoed the thing but he didn't.
But the thing that is pissing me off right now is McCain is working overtime to take this absurdity to the next step. He's in the process as we speak of shutting down free speech on the Internet. This cannot be allowed to stand.
The Internet has been the best thing to happen for free speech and freedom in general since the printing press. It's been a revolution for individual liberty.
Individuals organizing and using the Internet were instrumental in impeaching President Clinton. The same methods were used to block Gore's attempted theft of the presidency and denied John Kerry his shot at the White House. It's been successful thus far in blocking the communist led antiwar movement from doing the same thing to our war efforts as they did during Vietnam. We've used it to uncover fraud and corruption and to unseat corrupt politicians and corrupt media propagandists.
We've used the Internet to organize tens of thousands of rallies and protests and campaigns for or against one issue or another.
Independent forums, blogs, bulletin boards, newsletters, web sites, email campaigns, etc., the world over have become essential weapons in our ongoing struggle against tyranny and to remain (or become) free nations and free people.
The mainstream media knows this. The government knows this. And they despise it.
The Beast must gain control over free speech to maintain their power over the people.
When Internet sites like FR are hobbled or shut down, then we lose a powerful medium that amplifies our individual voices. We lose our primary weapon that has been so successful over the last ten years or so.
John McCain is heading up this threat to our fundamental freedoms. And he must be stopped. Yes, I'm pissed. As far as I'm concerned his actions in shutting down free speech are tantamount to treason!
To: Jim Robinson
This sure is one way to get more folks on the prayer thread.
You scared me for a minute.
To: sasafras
I've said this before, like others you have the idea apparently that President Bush has a big "S" for Superman on his underwear.
You also have the wrong idea just what powers the POTUS has, which in comparison to the House and Senate are very little as they can overrule everything he tries to do if they so wish, which they have done since January 2001.
