Senior Muslim clerics demanded Thursday that an Afghan man on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity be executed, warning that if the government caves in to Western pressure and frees him, they will incite people to "pull him into pieces."
"Rejecting Islam is insulting God. We will not allow God to be humiliated. This man must die," said cleric Abdul Raoulf, who is considered a moderate and was jailed three times for opposing the Taliban before the hard-line regime was ousted in 2001.

No, they'd be dead. I would not complain, but I'd prefer their own people release themselves from the oppresion of their clerics.
The eyes of the world are starting to focus on the islamic backwaters and "the other half" (those people who think islam should be tolerated) is going to see the demon uncloaked.
I imagine that Abdul Rahman is aware of how important his actions are...he represents Christ. He seems unafraid at the threat of being separated from his head.
You said -- "We await your decision."
That's way too reasonable for an Islamic to understand. Afraid it just wouldn't work.

Maybe you ignored, I was giving them only 24 hours, before either they would concede or we would leave.
I agree. When I mentioned "someone" rounding up the clerics and getting medieval, I didn't mean the US armed forces, but rather the Afghani victims of these clerics. My real point was "medieval" still being centuries ahead of the ideal 7th century Islamist community (unless "medieval" also encompasses that period).

Look at post #23. They would simply practice Takeyya on you, until you weren't looking and then they would chop off your head.
Ever try to get an "agreement" or a "contract" with someone who lies all the time, on paper or not?

Eventually, the results will be the same (yes, THE SAME) in Iraq.
There is an awful truth (but a truth, nonetheless) that is becoming apparent here. George Will sensed it in a recent column, but of late his writing style has become so self-important as to be almost unreadable. I'll speak it plainly:
Democracy and Islam are incompatible. Period.
There can never (repeat for emphasis, NEVER) be a truly "free" election in an Islamic state - no more than there could be one in a Marxist state.
A "free" election would permit a non-Islamic candidate to run espousing non-Islamic views. Where is this going to happen?
In an Islamic state, any so-called "free" election will consist only of Islamic candidates arguing simply that their specific brand of Islam is "better". No one will dare run questioning allah's will.
Thus, we see even "moderate" Islamics calling for the execution of that apostate in Afghanistan. In truth, what else did we _expect_ for our military efforts there?
Oh, I know, I know. George W. Bush's vision of "democratization" that would bring freedom and tolerance to the Islamic nations, right? Excuse me while I let out a belly laugh. Along with a snort of disgust.
Now it's time for a "Fishrrman - you read it here first" prediction:
The time is going to come - not necessarily in my lifetime, or even yours, but it will come - when those in The West ask, "what must we do to DE-Islamicize the nations of Islam?"
Not pacify them. Not "democratize" them (it didn't take us very long to find out how well _that_ experiment was going to go, eh?). Not nuke them. But rather, to convert them into states that can live in peace with the rest of the world.
A daunting task, but short of destroying them or cordoning them off from the rest of the world behind "an Iron Veil", the only way to forcibly bring (convert?) them into sync with the rest of humanity.

I reject Allah!
I reject Allah!
I reject Allah!
Come get me, moonbats.
Gad ~ Germany had abandoned civilization in the 1930s. Took a long time to drag them back to it.
Better yet.
Allah is a false god and Mohammed was a molester of children.
Allah FUBAR!
well it is not saying cay cera cera (sp)
enough is enough of this pathetic religion.
HEY lets kill because of a cartoon!!!!!!!!!!!!
it is the next world war and we better realize it our wear burkas and stick our arse in the air 5 times a day!
Great quote from Churchill. I will buy the book.
If this fellow is executed, that small act could be decisive for our whole M-E project. After all, Afghanistan is our "success." If this is where their moderates are, I expect it would signal the American people that their suspicions of the hopelessness of this civilizing mission are well founded. They may refuse to invest more blood and treasure. (I have no idea how we would pick up the pieces from such a collapse of our will.)
Someone tell me again -- how many American lives was this hell-hole worth which hates ALL things (including its liberators) NOT Muslim?
How about this novel idea...if they kill this man...then we kill those that called for his death.
Delta Force can make it look like an accident......
Why? Then there would be no lesson in it,
and they NEED to learn!
I fear that many of your concerns to be dead on. I fear that this Islamic extremist part of the world is like trying to tame a crocodile to jump through hoops.
Are these the same clerics who overlook man/boy Thursdays in a lot of the villages?
We don't have enough cruise missles. They are worth much more than the mullahs anyway.
"We shouldn't be in the nation-building/policing business, especially in Islamic countries (where the chance of success is dim at best). Our armed forces are not peacekeepers, they're warriors. If we believe a regime is a threat, then destroy its military might and kill its leadership. Leave the nation-building to the survivors."
Dead on (pardon the term). As it applies to Islamic countries. It did work though in Germany and Japan. But the Islamic religion stands in the way of most efforts at democratizing the Middle East.
