South Park gets revenge on Chef
BBC ^ | March 23, 2006

Posted on 03/23/2006 7:31:04 AM PST by ConservativeStatement

South Park has exacted revenge on its former star Isaac Hayes by turning his character Chef into a paedophile and seemingly killing him off. The opening episode of the 10th series, screened in the US on Wednesday, appeared to be a satire on Scientology. Hayes, a Scientologist, quit the animated comedy after a different episode ridiculed the religion. In the new show, Chef is brainwashed by the "Super Adventure Club" -thought to be a veiled reference to Scientology. The other characters are angry at "that fruity little club for scrambling his brains".

Thought it was a good concept...too hastily executed, however.

Parts were funny. I enjoyed the eulogy.

I watched and it was a VERY thinly veiled reference to scientology. They even flashed "This is what the super adventure friends really believe" on the screen like they did with scientologists.

Oh man, I had heard it was the "Super Adventure Group" and thought it was a reference to the Screen Actors Guild! LOL

Did the "Church" of Scientology actually think Matt and Trey would cave like everyone else? They just laid down the gauntlet, practically begging for a lawsuit.

I did like their treatment of Chef though, showing they have no ill will towards Isaac Hayes, just the people who scrambled his mind.

I watched it. I thought the explicit language was a bit rougher than even South Park is known for, but...

It was very funny in its skewering of Scientology. The bit where they put "THIS IS ACTUALLY WHAT THEY BELIEVE" had me laughing out loud.

I don't ever want to get on the bad side of Trey & Matt. They were brutal.

I thought it was hilarious. Very well done, especially with the time constraints they had.

I also thought they were very gracious to Isaac Hayes, I mean Chef, and laid the blame at the feet of who it should be laid at - the Scientologists, I mean the Super Adventure Group.

I especially liked the eulogy, but also Darth Chef!

Chef fell off a cliff, was stabbed, and then was mauled by a mountain lion and a grizzly bear.

That had to hurt.

Then they rescued him and turned him into Darth Chef.

This was brilliant (a little disturbing, but brilliant..) Especially considering LRon Hubbard was a member of the 'Explorers Club' and accused of being a pedophile.

I love Darth Chef.. that will open some interesting story lines and keep the $cientologists pissed off..

There was an interesting story yesterday that Hayes may have had nothing to do with quitting the show - his Scientology handlers took advantage of him being worse off than people think because of the stroke he had in January.

Funniest part is that everyone and their mothers know the Super Adventure Club was Scientology but they never named it. What is the Scientologist to do. Complaining would just lead to questions about why Scientologist believe that a club promoting molesting children and brainwashing is related to Scientolgy. lol
