"The measure would outlaw smoking in most public places except casinos, cigar bars and the smoking lounge at Denver International Airport."

I don't see why casinos can but bars can't. Makes no sense. Cigar bars, sure, otherwise you'd put them out of business.

You're looking for consistency in the substance use laws. We haven't had that here since the early 1900's.

I remember when Owens was considered the great conservative hope for '08.

My hometown in Colorado already has no smoking in most establishments, but it isn't by law. Most businesses decided to go no-smoking because that's how the market is in that town.

That is as it should be.

Another Coloradan here...What's stupid about the casino exemption is that casinos are the one place where smoke or no smoke will make no difference. The gambling addiction will win out either way. So, logically, ban smoking in the casinos too.

I have my own solution to the smoke issue. The state should design two signs, and every business would be required to prominently post one or the other over the entrance to the business in question. One sign would indicate smoking allowed, the other, no smoking allowed, at the business owner's discretion. The owner could change the smoking policy whenever desired. Then, the market would control. Soon, most businesses would be non-smoking, and a minority would allow smoking. Don't like smoke, don't go in. Don't want to work with smoke, don't apply at smoking establishments. Don't like smoke, but the only job is at a smoking place? Take the job, and keep looking...temporary smoke exposure won't kill you.

Isn't that a distant memory!!! Was that before or after the wife thing? He is an absolute RINO and it is to the point where hearing his name brings just a little vomit to my mouth.

Ahh the key point, choice in the free market. I guess the legislators in CO decided the sheeple are too stupid to understand basic econ and the right to free choice.

You like the STATE to run people's lives?

I lived in CO for 10 years and left when the Kalifornians started their infiltration to Kolorado. I guess that's why we now live in NC.

Letting you smoke at the airport is a biggie for me.I'm amazed they kept this option.

As an easterner I always think of the west as the land of independence.

No more.

Thank God.

If I ever vacation in Colorado, I'm comforted to know that I can smoke at the airport.

Get a load of this one.

Now that the smoking bans have softened everyone up, the next step:

Senate passes smoking ban

03/16/2006
Chris Frates

The Senate passed a bill today that would ban smoking in all bars and restaurants. The vote was 19-15. The House has previously passed a similar bill, which puts the bill on track for implementation, statewide.

A House and Senate conference committee voted this morning to approve a stricter version of a ban that includes bars and taverns.

The committee voted 5-0 to endorse the House version of the bill, which includes exemptions for casino floors, the Denver International Airport smoking lounge, cigar bars, smoke shops, small businesses and family farms.

In its version, the Senate also exempted bars and taverns, bingo parlors, racetracks, and private clubs.

Why? I don't mean to be dense, but I don't get it! I live in a bigger place, and the business owners had no problem with it.

I spent a very pleasant hour in the smoking room in Denver airport 2 years ago, unlike Boston where you have to suffer and huddle and freeze a distance from the entryways.

I also get a kick out of the arrests for being drunk in a bar. These are the "freedoms" that our brave men and women have fought for over the years?

This country has gone stark, raving nuts!
