Former-President Bill Clinton insisted yesterday that he was in complete agreement with wife Hillary's objections on the Dubai ports buyout - even though he reportedly advised the Dubai royal family on how to make the deal fly.
"I supported Hillary's position, and the news reports to the contrary were wrong,” Mr. Clinton claimed while speaking in Harlem yesterday.
What about that phone call Joe Lockhart, his former White House scandal spokesman, made to the Dubai Ports World chairman to lobby for the deal? (The call was made to Chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, according to congressional testimony by DPW CEO Edward Bilkey.)
Not so, the ex-president insisted yesterday, explaining that what really happened:
"I told [DPW] I couldn't understand why they wanted to do this, given all the problems we have with port security."
In quotes picked up by NY1, Clinton claimed that he warned the ports company that "there would be tremendous public and congressional opposition."
The ex-president did, however, acknowledge that he told the Sultan Ahmed that "if they were determined to press ahead, I thought they should not push the process, but should open it up, and they should actually propose things that would increase port security.”
But he maintained that he never asked anyone to support the deal, and insisted that Dubai Ports World never compensated him.
Clinton didn't mention the compensation he'd already taken from the U.A.E. royal family, which owns DPW - including $600,000 in speaking fees and a $1 million contribution to his presidential library.
That's entirely possible. It's also possible that neither one of you believe a word you are saying...
They agreed before they disagreed.

Who cares if they agree? I don't. hillereee is hangin' onto the coattails of ole willie with tight fists. She can't do anything without him.
From news reports, the impeached POS appears to be an unregistered lobbiest for Dubai.
With the clintons taking both sides of the issue, it's a perfect example of their strategy to maintain leftist support while appealing to the middle.
The clihton strategy is brilliant. Never let your guard down.

No one cares what Bill and Hillary thinks about the ports.
Their celebritery is getting thin -- and that's all they have going for them.
Both Clintons had a brilliant 15 minutes of fame, but the glow is fading and falling away like a summer firework display.
The media will try to keep them alive but the spark is gone.
