BOARD OF CHOSEN FREEHOLDERS
MORRIS COUNTY, NEW JERSEY
RESOLUTION NO. 49
ADOPTED: March 8, 2006
WHEREAS, an advanced placement government class at Parsippany High School conducted a mock trial (the Mock Trial) and named George W. Bush, President of the United States of America, as a defendant; and,
WHEREAS, during this Mock Trial, President Bush was falsely accused of crimes against civilian populations, and the inhumane treatment of prisoners, and
WHEREAS, these charges amounted to accusing the President of the United States of being a war criminal, and
WHEREAS, this Mock Trial was conducted while the United States was in fact waging a war on terrorism against assassins who attacked our nation on Sept. 11, 2001, killing thousands of innocent men, women and children, and
WHEREAS, since that day in September 2001, thousands more young American men and women have been killed or wounded while bravely serving in this war to defeat the terrorists so that attacks like the ones that occurred nearly five years ago will never again happen on American soil; and,
WHEREAS, there are more appropriate and respectful avenues for addressing public concerns over current national policy than by conducting mock trials in a high school classroom of a sitting president for scurrilous accusations of war crimes during a time of war;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Board of Chosen Freeholders of the County of Morris in the State of New Jersey that the Mock Trial is hereby condemned as highly inappropriate and inimical to our national interest for the following reasons.
1. The Mock Trial undermines the office of the Presidency at the very moment our nation is at war.
2. The Mock Trial undermines the legitimacy of our troops, who currently serve in harms way at the command of the President of the United States.
3. The Mock Trial is disrespectful to the young men and women who have paid the ultimate price in this war on terrorism because it suggests they gave their lives on orders from a war criminal rather than a President who is committed to ensure the national security of the United States of America.
The Board adopted the above resolution to express its opposition to this Mock Trial.
There are far too many cases of teachers using their classrooms to foster an anti-American agenda and provide enemies of our Country and our troops with ammunition.
If you support the above resolution, call the Morris County Clerk of the Board's Office at 973-285-6024 to express your support for the Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders and opposition to this "mock trial" of President Bush for war crimes by this teacher.
Its my understanding that there have numerous calls opposing this resolution from well-organized pacifist groups in the area and the entire issue has been given much coverage locally.
There was a kid who was doing a mock war crimes trial of Bush in a class who called Rush a few weeks ago. Not sure if it was this one.
Signed up to post this? Welcome to FR.
Can we try minors along with their teachers for treason?
Excellent! Thanks for posting it, and welcome to FR.
Political discussion is good but teaching kids to disrespect the President isnt.
I am sure the teacher will be waived his/her NEA or AFT fees for the year. /sarc
Please.
Call the Board.
Let them know their are people out there who support them.
Thanks for the welcome. I have been a long time lurker.
Its time for all brave people to display their true colours.
I'll bet they find Bush not guilty by reason of insanity.
I am inclined to hold all IB4TZ on this one.
Something drilled into me makes me respect anyone whose name starts with Major. Don't know what it could be.
This Parsippany Trial has been such big news with local newspapers supporting the efforts of the teacher. Only problem is a US President can not be tried for war crimes in an international court. A President can only be impeached. The teacher is teaching the wrong thing to an advanced placement class government class.
Not in the habit of reading a post before commenting, I guess?
I wonder when they'll have their mock trial for FDR and his crimes against the civilian populations of WWII? Or LBJ for his crimes against civilians during the Vietnam war?
Well, that's true.
But its also true that "trials" of this nature provide encouragement to our common enemies, and teachers are employing their positions to influence young, malleable, and most frequently empty minds with rather distorted views of the situation in the Middle East.
Its a trend which really should be stopped.
Yes, there was a defense. Since Drudge posted this a week or two ago, the School Board chose not to allow a verdict.
Big Deal. The original plan was for other teachers to be the jury.
I agree. It was also a poor educational exercise since he wasn't teaching how the government actually works.

Major Gladwin is a forgotten American, well, British, hero.
He ehld Detroit against the unprecedented, a long siege by Pontiac during Pontiac's Rebellion after the French and Indian War ended.
I understand the Frenchies aroused the tribes against the Brits and colonists after they lost the war.
Sore loosers to the bone.
So some high school kids had a debate, but to make it more interesting, called it a "mock trial." And everyone is up in arms over this? Aren't there more important moral crusades for the right to fight in, like the Global War on Terror or even the Global War on Reality Television?
