The Port Deal and Race was it a factor at all(Of Course Not)
The Emirates Economist | 03/12/06 | bayourant

Did Race play a role in the Port Deal discussions? The very charge is met by the likes of Sean Hannity and others with Righteous Indigination. In fact, to mention it makes you the true problem. Mark Levin in fact called a MAjor General a dirtbag over that charge. The below cartoons may be an issue now in the UAE. They are not cartoons about that ole darn prophet however. THere will be no boycotts over these but remember still they dont help things. The cartoonist just give us what we want sometimes. From MSNBC the following cartoon. There were many others that through the glory of the net are available to all.

Coming from you that's rich.

Rich indeed.

If we were going to inventory all of the useless members of FreeRepublic, you would be at the top of the list-or the bottom, depending upon which criteria were used-somewhere between Blackelk and Protagoras.

UAE leadership role praised in ports deal controversy

(Wam)

13 March 2006

DUBAI — The visiting US Congressional delegation praised the US-UAE relations and expressed its determination to maintain their partnership with the UAE.

The delegation from Georgia — US Senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson, and Representatives Phil Gingrey and John Linder — who earlier met His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also met Director of Dubai Customs Ahmed Butti, and saw a demonstration of the container security operation at Port Rashid. They also met Executive Chairman Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation Sultan bin Suleyem.

After meeting Shaikh Mohammad, Senator Chambliss said: “We had very positive meetings in the UAE with the government leadership as well as management of Dubai Ports World. We value the relationship between the UAE and the United States and we have worked very closely together in fighting the global war on terror.

“It is critically important that we continue our partnership and work side by side in fighting terrorism and on the upcoming trade agreement.”

“On the particular transaction on the port situation, the Prime Minister showed tremendous leadership in urging Dubai Ports World to transfer the operation of the ports to a US-owned entity. We now have the opportunity to move forward in our relationship and continue to work together as partners on our priorities.”

Senator Chambliss said the level of professionalism in Dubai “was just stunning”.

Senator Isakson thanked the leadership “for understanding the sensitivity of the situation. “In one day,” he said, “We received a college education about the UAE.

“The UAE is our partners in the war on terrorism, and we have a mutually beneficial and multi-faceted relationship. Because there was a firestorm of controversy concerning the ports deal, we decided to come to Dubai to learn the facts for ourselves,” he added.

Referring to the Dubai Ports controversy, Congressman Linder said: “This project was publicised in November and no one responded. In March, it became a political issue, the democrats trying to show they are strong on national Security and the Republicans trying to respond.”

“In the future,” he said, “These things should be measured on facts, not on emotions.”

Congressman Gingrey said the process certainly would have been better had Congress been informed. People are still fearful, but it is important for the American people to better understand the UAE. The UAE has been very helpful in the war or terror. “This country is not part of the problem, rather it is part of the solution,” he asserted.

Sorry to hear about that.

:(

I really like Oklahoma.

It seems like such a beautiful, picturesque place.

Plus, some of my favorite American music comes out of that state.

I even like its politicians.

For that most part.

We need MarkLevinFan to supply a transcript of that part of that show...to show that it wasn't the verbiage that Mark used... I don't remember what was SAID per se...just that Mark was very upset with Abizaid...which is his perogative, of course.

The audio is here: http://marklevinfan.com/?p=942

For a transcript of that part of the show, listen carefully and write down everything you hear!

Could someone please point me to bayourant's apology?

Yeah.

We do have some pretty decent politicians. I haven't paid much attention to our dem governor, Hendry because either our local paper doesn't cover him very often or he's a quiet sort.

The first part of the month we had 2 bad fires in the area. One was to the north of town and burned close to 3500 acres. I could stand on my front lawn and watch the huey and the blackhawk drop water on the fire. We also had 2 cropdusters spreading chemicals to help check the fire. They had just barely gotten the one to the north under control when a worse one broke out about 13 miles to the south. Unfortunately in that one we lost a number of homes and two of our volunteer firefighters were injured. One isn't expected to make it. He's had both arms amputated, they've talked about amputating one of his feet and the burns above his waist are deep enough they can't do any skin grafting.

We have a prayer thread here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1588662/posts?page=83

About the only good that can come out of the fires will be the regrowth since much of the area is overgrown with brush, tall grasses and various types of trees (including mesquite).

Anyways, this poster seems quite a bit like the Bayourod.

Perhaps they were separated at birth.

They must have split the brain in two when peforming the operation.

Why the hell did you ping me to that post?

I'm not remotely interested in your opinion of the posters here.

I'm not a fan of YOUR pings.

I still don't understand why you included me in that ping. You have to know what I think about you as a poster.

"I am sure Abizaid's comments were 'approved' by Rumsfeld and above...the point is, as a military man, he should have known better than to step into a political fight, regardless of which side he favored."

My guess is Abizaid (as an Arab-American) was asked indirectly by the CiC to give his "opinion" on the matter of Arab/Muslim "bashing" (which are two different things.)

I concur with you that he should have known better than to step into this political fray -- especially as a military commander -- but the WH was THAT desperate to put him in that awkward position, which I deemed patheticly exploitive of Abizaid, AND the American people.

The problem with pointing you to bayourant's apology is before he could go back and re-listen to the tape, he was banned. It's very difficult to issue an apology when your posting privileges are revoked. But, then you knew that...
