Threat Matrix: Daily Terror Threat - Thread Thirty-Five

:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Unrest in Pakistan Setback for Terror War
(Full Story)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- A week of unprecedented urban fighting in the wild tribal belt of North Waziristan has left scores dead and forced thousands to flee their homes, raising the stakes in Pakistan's war on Islamic militancy along the Afghan border.

A jumbled alliance of foreign militants, local tribesmen and Islamic students eager for jihad have stepped up resistance in a region where the army already claims to have wiped out al-Qaida as a viable fighting force.

The unrest, brewing for months, is a setback to the U.S.-led war on terror. Further hampering that effort are deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Afghan claims that Taliban leader Mullah Omar is hiding in Pakistan and suicide bombers are training here.

Shortly before Christmas, I went to the funeral of one of America's finest, who was killed in Iraq. (son of a friend) That so-called "religious" group from Kansas was there with their signs, banners, and yelling their diatribe/garbage. It sickened me. A bunch of bikers from our local Harley Owners' Group (HOGS) showed up and placed their bikes and bodies between the protestors and the family and mourners. First time ever that I heard cheering at a funeral.

This group from the so-called "church" in Kansas is traveling all over the country attending and disrupting these funerals. IMHO, First Ammendment rights only extend so far.

I cannot help but wonder who funds them.

There is also a traveling "church" group (cult) that pickets and loudly protests at the funerals of America's fallen soldiers.

That is a particularly despicable practice, at anyone's funeral, let alone service personnel. Normally, I believe free speech is nearly an absolute right, but I'd make an exception here. Or settle for a bunch of bikers thumping their heads.

Protesters fuel immigration backlash

Snip: Not to be overly technical, but if the person holding the sign came into the United States illegally, then he or she most certainly is a lawbreaker. This part isnt complicated. There are federal immigration laws on the books governing the proper way for one to enter the United States. Ergo, these people should be considered criminals.

The illegal immigration time bomb

Snip: ....Democrats and Republicans trying to figure out a way to put them on a fast track to citizenship. A lot of Americans don’t like this idea and a lot of them vote!

This is happening when the United States presumably has a homeland security problem in the form of porous borders, a laughable deportation program, and virtually no system in place to track anyone who enters the U.S., whether as a tourist, a student, a businessman, or to pick crops.

Immigration called on I-70 crash

Snip: STRASBURG, Colo. -- Seventeen suspected illegal immigrants were taken into federal custody Monday after their van was involved in a rollover crash on icy Interstate 70.

All 17 people -- including 14 men, two women, and one teen -- were inside a 1994 Chevrolet Surburban when it rolled on westbound I-70, at Mile Marker 317, near the town of Strasburg. Colorado State Patrol troopers as well as officials with the Immigration and Custom Enforcement were sent the crash, which occurred at 9:43 a.m.

Shootout at drop house in Houston

Snip: "I heard seven shots, total," he said. "It was like the Wild West."Twenty-one men suspected of being illegal immigrants were taken into custody at the scene. Jose Monsivais-Muniz, 25, Jesus Gomez-Ibarra, 21, and Roberto Carlos Lopez-Dominguez, 30, were charged with harboring illegal immigrants. Members of the rival group fled and are still being sought.

Ice agent arrested

Snip: Santiago Efrain Valle, 42, was arrested Friday on a charge of extortion after he allegedly accepted $20,000 from undercover agents to drop immigration charges against and change the risk classification for Francisco Javier Gutierrez, prosecutors said.

FBI agent says he suspected Moussaoui was a terrorist; bosses wouldn't listen
3/20/06

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The FBI agent who arrested Zacarias Moussaoui in August 2001 accused headquarters of criminal negligence for its refusal to investigate Moussaoui aggressively after his arrest, according to court testimony Monday.

Agent Harry Samit testified under cross-examination at Moussaoui's trial that FBI headquarters' refusal to follow up "prevented a serious opportunity to stop the 9/11 attacks" that killed nearly 3,000 people.

Moussaoui is the only person charged in this country in the attacks.

The FBI's actions between Moussaoui's arrest on immigration violations on Aug. 16, 2001, and Sept. 11, 2001, are crucial to his trial because prosecutors allege that Moussaoui's lies prevented the FBI from thwarting or at least minimizing the Sept. 11 attacks. Prosecutors must prove that Moussaoui's actions caused the death of at least one person on 9/11 to obtain a death penalty.

Bomb unit investigates object found by children

Snippets: Jenkins said the children who found the object brought it into their house. The father brought it back outside and called emergency dispatchers, worried it might be an explosive.

The Richland County Sheriff's Dept. lent a crew of bomb experts and its bomb trailer to the Columbia Police Department to transport the object to the Richland County C&D Landfill, Capt. Joseph Pelicci said. He said the object would be destroyed there in a controlled detonation.

Sudden Jihad syndrome in N. Carolina

Snip: "Individual Islamists may appear law-abiding and reasonable, but they are part of a totalitarian movement, and as such, all must be considered potential killers." I wrote those words days after 11 September 2001 and have been criticized for them ever since. But an incident on 3 March at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill suggests I did not go far enough.

Snip: The leaflets, from the Danish chapter of Hizb ut-Tahrir, called on Muslims to travel to Iraq to join the insurgents fighting coalition troops. They also urged Muslims to ``eliminate your rulers if they stand in your way'' - a phrase prosecutors interpret as a direct threat to the Danish government.
