My point is that if they really want to be involved with the civilized world, then their hatred of Jews is going to have to go. They just found that out.
To: bwteim
That wasn't exactly my take on it but I will cede the point. Perhaps they did say "an American interest" in that press release. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

;-) Now that the deal is dead, it's time for us to stop fighting amongst ourselves and think about the elections coming up this year.

Perhaps you are busy making an international trade with Saudi Arabi, Iraq, Egypt, or such. But I have not received a reply as to exactly what is your opposition to the DPW deal.

Wondered if you realized the italicized comment belonged to the "other party," the one who will not answer my question. (wink, wink)Sorry, I still don't understand a lot of this stuff... I see some posts, with the original line, then a response, then another line.... Oh well, then I don't know what a heck is going on... Main thing is I don't want to offend anyone.. :)

It's official, Bush is a lame duck. Now it's time he just kicks back for the next two and half years to collect his full pension. He should just start wrapping the WOT up and make some guest appearances.

Jihad Watch These UAE supporters are being good dhimmis without even knowing it, then chew us out for bringing it to their attention!

DPW and the illegal immigration/borders issues are not the same.
The *polls* that showed a *majority* of *adults* against the DPW deal were taken as quickly as possible after 3 days of non-stop lying about takeovers/running security/purchasing US assets. One of the better pollsters, Rasmussen, perhaps, but I really don't recall exactly, even prefaced their published poll on the issue as "our first poll", knowing they would have to back and and reassess after the truth came out.
I have my own beefs w/the RNC and I have been contributing to individual candidates, rather than the party. Since all our guys seem to have more than enough funds, the spigots haven't dried up. I live in the heartland and I back President Bush. I would never want to be responsible for the donks regaining any majority in either house, let alone the WH.
No doubt, all sides of every issue contribute to whomever seems to back their favorite horse. It is called politics and has always been thus.

Thanks, and I should have pointed out also how the UAE has turned over top Al Qaeda terrorists, provided reams of intelligence on Al Qaeda, provided us intelligence on Iran's nuclear program and helped us put the nuclear proliferator Dr. Khan, the Pakistani scientist, out of business once and for all. But despite all that it is the UAE that is the bad friend according to that schmuck we pay them back for all that and more by flipping them the bird. We've become such a silly country.
And our politicians are even more ridiculous. The only thing they give a crap about is this ridiculous dog catcher election in November. Good governance be damned! It's all about seeking power for the sake of holding power while doing nothing significant with it. And both parties are guilty, though I exempt the president from that criticism and his administration. It's the losers like Susan "Lispy" Collins, Lindsey "Goober" Graham, and Peter "I Hate the UAE but Love the IRA" King. Spare me these hacks.

It's aways a 'masterplan' when their plan falls apart. They dare not call it a stupid deal to begin with which is why it failed. :-)

Had the deal gone through, it would have compromised our national security. The deal IS going to go through, just not in the originally-proposed form. Any possible compromise to national security represented by this deal is entirly dwarfed by our daily negligence of our own southern border. Bluntly put, we've got FAR LARGER fish to fry in the "National Security" category.
While there were questionable events involving UAE officials and al-Quaeda in the late '90's, after 9-11 all that crap ended. They have expressed regret that they ever recognized the Taliban as the ligitimate government of Afghanistan, and have sought to distance themselves from radical Islamist groups, focusing on strong diplomatic relations with the US and collaborative operations with US intelligence and teh US military.
I've heard much of "the dirt" on the UAE, and it dates predominantly from the pre-9-11 era. My gut-level is that the UAE saw 9-11 and recognized a defining moment -- a line in the sands of history -- when they had to make a serious choice about which side of that line they wanted to stand on. From all subsequent appearances, they have chosen to stand on our side of that line. None of that excuses shabbiness in how accountability is set up to secure port operations, but it supports the deal, in principle.
We cannot say to the Middle East, "Leave the 14th Centruy behind and join the civilized world," then turn right around and bar their attempts at participation in the civlized world.

DPW may be owned by Dubai, but the Board of Directors and most of its employees are not Arabs, many are Americans.
The irony is how many American-run Port operations companies employ arabs who are here legally. The hypocrisy is mind boggling and Republicans just got used by liberals to oppose the President for the sake of opposition. Liberals are getting smarter; they know what makes a knee jerk and how to get people to turn against the President. Kudos to them. I never thought in my time on FR I would see so many "true conservatives" happily agreeing with people like Clinton, Schumer, Kerry, Gore...in opposition to a President we supposedly trust.
So now the precedent is set; we have to start opposing airlines that currently fly into the United States from the Middle East who might possibly employ dispatchers, fuelers, rampers, gate agents, pilots, mechanics, etc.
Real smart.
