I don't mind FReepers venting and using me as their object of frustration.

I did not say I disagreed with the port deal.

Either way it came out best for my party and probably will for my country.

I can guarantee you that Dubai's relations with the USA is based more on money and security than on wanting to be just good buddies.

Does DPW have any assets in the US?

Some of you folks don't understand this.

DPW has agreed to transfer to a US company as yet undetermined control of the ports that DPW would have controlled.

This is not an anti-American action by Dubai.

In fact, it is a VERY PRO-ADMINISTRATION move. This is a way out for the president and initiated by the company itself.

DPW is doing a GOOD thing for American relations here, not a bad thing meant to hurt us like some of you seem to be thinking.

Very Good, you may not be ignorant to this issue but other?
IGNORANT
ADJECTIVE:

1)Lacking education or knowledge.
2)Showing or arising from a lack of education or knowledge: an ignorant mistake.
3)Unaware or uninformed.

Take a poll and see how many people thought the UAE was buying the ports and would control security with nuke warheads flowing freely in the open sea.

You're right. As the world becomes increasingly complex it becomes increasingly necessary for leaders to be able to educate others on complex issues. Otherwise the ignorant mob prevails. Bush failed. Congress was never even in the game. Just pitiful.

Dubai realizes that the president is an ally and this move by DPW was *AT THE HEART A GESTURE OF FRIENDSHIP TO THE ADMINISTRATION*

It is not a signal that our diplomatic relations will turn icy.

Frankly, I am surprised that sign has not come, and this definitely is not such a sign.

There have apparently been discussions for a couple of days.

This is going to make shipping expensive. One of their proposals is to create an american company but, it cannot have any fiscal impact on DPW so the middle man must be paid.

If you think all hell broke loose with the Dubai ports deal, wait until Haliburton corp. try to purchase the sell off. The liberals will hate Haliburton more than Dubai and we can't forget the RINOS now.
I hope president Bush will sever his ties with the RINOS.

Dubai? Cesspool? LOL. Gosh it feels funny defending foreigners to fellow citizend but Dubai is probably a damn site nicer place to live than your haunts.

You do realize muslims (mercenaries) in and around present day Israel hired on with the USA Marines to march to Tripoli and kick the ass of the barbary pirate backers. The world is a complex place full of alliances that would outwardly appear to make zero sense. Such as is the case with the USA trading heavily with China and the Russians with Iran. bu bu buut I thought Russia was the mortal enemy of Islam? LOL. Naw, just the ones that want to carve a piece out the motherland. The Iranian dough spends real good thanks.

I hope the ChiComs don't get the ports (as it is, they control much more than they should).

It's not Halliburton.

Didn't think it would be; this is outside the scope of their business. DWP purchased another "American" company this morning and will transfer P&O terminal operations over there - no big deal.

D'oh! SHHH!! Congress might find out!

I agree with you. I think there is possibly even more info out there to be heard. Of course, there are some who not only INSIST that the deal should go through, they would also assert that those of us who weren't ok with it are "moonbats" or "stupid" or a host of other INCORRECT (and I'm being nice) assertions. It really makes me wonder who does value intelligence and who just wants 'fall-in-line' compliance without dissent. Gee. There are a few prominent historical figures that required such devotion. Lucky for us, W is not one of them.

Worth repeating, this is a step BACKWARDS in diplomacy.

I'd have to say that it is a giant step backwards in security as well. We have to be more worried about who is loading what in foreign ports onto ships bound for US ports and that takes allies we can use to find trouble before it starts. Otherwise we are just sitting ducks. Once the ship sails into a US port, regardless of who is operating what there, it is too late.

And not a peep about financial firms moving operations to Dubai. I'd think financial security would be a big deal also...

QUESTION FOR ALL SUPPORTERS (ON F.R.) WHO SUPPORT THIS DPW DEAL:
How would you have reacted had this deal been proposed during a "Kerry Administration"?
