relevant, irrelevant? Not at all. Apparently the UAE base deal was conceived during the clinton administration (y'know, the same administration that did the chinese port deals) and was greased by providing the uae with the most sophisticated F-16's on the planet.....keep pumping that uae "ally" bologna, they're allies as long as the US writes checks....

Why do you say that??? At the end of the day, results are what matter. Because of Lindsey, some of the most constructionist judges in history have been confirmed. Like it or not, his results have been phenomenal!

The bill they attached it to is for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan not politicians. The congress said they had enough votes to override a veto on the ports deal so why did they have to attach it to our soldier's money? If they don't like it, kill it but don't hold military money hostage.

Those are very unlikely outcomes considering their very existence depends on our willingness to defend them from their neighbors.

I think I'll just refer to this as the Clinton/Dubai ports deal from now on.

Lindsey is a RINO. He's in McCain's pocket.

Because the Congress inserted it in the appropriate bill for the troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and for the Katrina relief package. It is despicable what the Congress has done. They won their little battle but wait until UAE react and ask us to leave our military bases in their country and kick out our FBI and CIA operatives there. Let see what the knee jerks will do when we lose the most important Arab ally in the war on terror.

Mark my words, if the UAE kicks us out, it won't be long before IRAN, just a stone's throw away, invades UAE, beheads the King, Princes and ruling family and causes general myhem. The UAE needs us more than we need them. Behold the dumbest analysis in a year or so.

This is nothing unusual. If Bush is that opposed, he can veto and ask for a separate bill funding Iraq and Afghanistan. Oh, but wait, the President who is above politics will be afraid of the political fallout from a veto. Hmmm, guess he can't have it both ways.

I think I'll just refer to this as the Clinton/Dubai ports deal from now on.Technically, I believe that is correct......;)

The best folks we've got are the conservatives in the House....Yeah. The folks that fed DeLay to the wolves. The folks that failed on ANWR. I just did my taxes.....like I have done for 20 years. I didn't notice how the House Repubs helped me out....(uh....has G W Bush's AMT tax relief been made permanent by these jackarses?)
I don't see them fighting for me. I've seen Bush fighting for me. I remember.

So now it's ok to mess with needed military money for operations? Next step for the "Conservatives" is to vote to pull out all our troops from Iraq and Afghanistan because now we know the needed money is negotiable after 4+ years of hearing we'll give the military all the funding it needs.

It must be nice to so smart. And others so dumb. In fact so smart that 70% of Americans disagree with your point of view. Don't worry this deal will soon be dead. And UAE won't kick us out, because they need our protection more than we need their ports.
To: rodguy911
That certainly addresses the issue raised. But that is about the best argument the pro-ports deal people tend to have.
To: sam_paine
Don't know where you're getting your information. You're criticizing the only people who have lifted a finger on behalf of conservatism without having to have a political 2x4 upside their heads.

I guess a lot of people on this site do not realize that UAE is just not another third world sh!t hole. These guys are the real thing with 5 star resorts, lots of oil money and the where with all to buy pretty much whatever, whenever they want. Short and sweet they are Mideast capitalists!!
UAE is a third world sh!thole. All third world sh!tholes have rich and glamorous parts. 5 star resorts? So what? China has hundreds of 5 star resorts. Is China first world now? UAE recognizes the Taliban for christsakes... That's below third world sh!thole level.
