It wasn't just six ports. It was many more. It'd be nice if more Americans would start thinking defensively because the whole idea of the war on terror was to take the war to the enemy and to bring them to justice.
Why bother if we are going to bring potential enemies back here in some other format?
Did you hear that Al Quaeda was against the port deal too? AQ uses reverse psychology all the time. They REALLY wanted the Dubai deal to go through.

They had better be satisfied with how things are in UAE: There are no elections there.

"about helping an ally in the WOT."
The UAE not cooperating in tracking down terror accounts makes them an ally?

It's not about security.
It's about pandering to the bigots on the right and pandering to the unions on the left.

rodguy, the President learned about the deal at the same time we did, and then immediately he made his veto threat. If he only had a few hours at best to consider it, why should we acquiesce?
I've done some reading on this and made (too) many posts. (LOL) But keep this in mind, none of us has all the facts.
I think the administration should reject the CFIUS approval of the deal, and concentrate instead on defending and strengthening their position of executive power vis a vis NSA.
Dubai's history as a haven for al Qaeda and a supporter of the Taliban is too recent for me and millions of other Americans, not to mention their non-recognition of Israel.
This issue has shown us some things we'd rather not see, such as the involvement of other foreign interests in our ports. Slipped by all of us, so we might as well point fingers in all directions.

Great picks.
Swann has endured more than probably any other black candidate ever and Murtha is just trying to duck a congressional investigation of his misdeeds concerning defense contracts he has shuffled over to various buddies including Pelosi's relatives.

If the committee had the support to kill the deal, why did they have to attach it to a defense spending bill? Why couldn't they kill the deal separately?

For bed has Bush, Bill Clinton, Tom Daschle, Rush Limbaugh (hedging), Tony Snow, Madeline Albright, Bob Dole, etc.
Against bed has Hastert, Frist, Hannity, Levin, Schumer, Hillary Clinton, Peter King, etc.Still wondering in which bed the incontinent Al Gore is located. Though his silence strongly suggests he is for the deal.

Bill Clinton helped Dubai on ports deal
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1588266/posts Financial Times (FT.com) ^ | March 1 2006 23:50 | Stephanie Kirchgaessner
Bill Clinton, former US president, advised top officials from Dubai two weeks ago
on how to address growing US concerns over the acquisition of five US container terminals by DP World.
It came even as his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, was leading efforts to derail the deal.

It is a really stupid move, but I have about given up on this.
Americans don't understand the issue since the president can't get his reasoning across to them.
I am frustrated, though I don't think we will lose an ally over this...I think Bush will smooth things over somehow.
