The divide between conservative and liberal America was on full display at the Oscars, with both the winners and losers championing social and political topics heralded by the left.
Across the United States, in blogs and on call-in radio talk shows, conservatives seethed that their point of view was not represented in the choice films honored with nominations -- let alone among those given awards.
"This year's Oscar nominees include stories of homosexual sheep herders, a transvestite and Japanese prostitutes," ...
American conservatives are accustomed to frowning at liberal Hollywood, but they were more disaffected than ever by the left-of-center themes of this year's Oscar nominees.
the conservative Concerned Women for America (CWA)...complained that the few Hollywood films it approved of had loads of popular appeal and impressive box office, but "got the cold shoulder from Hollywood elitists."
Conservative America long has been at odds with liberal Tinseltown, championing films with religious overtones like the blockbuster "Passion of the Christ," which was snubbed at the 2004 Oscars.
This year another hit with Christian overtones was the film "The Chronicles of Narnia...which has raked in more than 637 million dollars in ticket receipts around the world...
Narnia's ticket sales nearly equaled those of the five best picture Oscar nominees combined.
"This year's anticipated Oscar-winning movies, reviewed in light of their box office appeal, reveal Hollywood's true motives.
They are far less concerned about entertaining people than they are with trying to shape the culture and advance a political agenda."
"If you want to be truly courageous and take actual risks then make a movie that gives conservatives a fair shake or, God forbid, make a movie where a Liberal is the bad guy."

Wow. That is very subtly very harsh. Bathhouses. wow.
That does it I will go see it now!(sarcasm)
And it's one of the few movies I can recall to show that ethnic minorities can be racist as well
Great! I will get interested in the subject that has been done to death once I get my doctorate in psychology(which will be never).
Like I said if I want to delve into others messy lives I will walk outside my door, I do not need to give good money to see it.
I realize that it holds interest for a few (and I mean a few just look at ticket sales even after all the hype), but to me I just find this type of movie boring or maddening. To me this type of movie is a big 'who cares'!
The Oscars would be more interesting for me this year if teenage boys had picked the best picture, at least then there would be some entertainment value...LOL! So you see really my opinion here is useless!
Hollywood is a business with no real way to quantify the end product. You can do everything right, top dollar star, experienced director, award winner screenwriter, etc. etc. and still end up flushing $100 million down the ole toilet. That fact drives most agents, executives and bean counters to beating-their-heads-on-the-toilet crazy...
This year's Oscar nominees include stories of homosexual sheep herders, a transvestite and Japanese prostitutes......
Hah.....they left out child-molesters---although I understand Rob Reiner is considering a film about director Roman Polanski---who got an Academy Award few years back, even though he can't set foot in America for fear of arrest on child molestaiton charges.
Follywarped loves to stick it to Christians----it's like the moguls met in secret (snicker) and put together a "To-Do List of Ways Hollywood Will Destroy Christian and American Values."
You could say the same about:
Book -- DaVinci Code, Another Roadside Attraction, etc. etc.
Television -- the Christian on the Simpsons
Art -- too numerous to name
Music -- Marilyn Manson, etc.
'Memoirs of a Geisha' was a huge best selling book which no one has yet turned into a 'sticking it to Christians' issue.
Being you just signed in today, my advice is to keep a low profile for awhile or you may be gone soon. You can have an opinion but if it isn't an opinion that fits a Conservative agenda, try Democratic Underground or some where else.
Ned Flanders is regarded as a positive Role Model by various Christian groups.
Hollyweirdo's days are numbered and they'll all have to answer to Our Heavenly Father one day sooner than later. Such a short span in their earthly bodies...then....eternity steps in...my oh my...they'll be in a shocking situation....
A little weird, but okay. I'm not a fan of the Simpsons, so I haven't paid close attention.
Make sure she's not a democrat at heart before this relationship gets to the engagement level.
Successful?! On what planet? It's taken 3 1/2 months for it to gross only 100 mill WORLDWIDE. And this takes none of the advertising costs into account. I cannot recall ever having a movie shoved down my throat with advertising like this one has been. It's non-stop. I guarantee you they've spent WAY over 100 mill on advertising. Narnia has grossed six times BM's box office, and I can't even recall what their commercials were, I saw so few.
Just because they're trying to make it look like the greatest love story since Romeo & Juliet. I mean. if you're going to make a gay cowboy movie, why be deceptive in your advertising? Are they ashamed of what its really about?
Oh yes, that was part of my point. I thought Mammon was Hollywood's god, and any movie making as much money as "The Passion of the Christ" did would cause them to produce a series of similar Bible-themed films. Well, I haven't seen any "Passion" spinoffs yet, unless you want to count "Chronicles of Narnia." Even Mel Gibson seems to have lost interest in the subject. At first I heard he was going to do a movie on the Maccabees, sort of a Jewish version of "Braveheart" or "The Patriot." Instead, he's nearly finished with an adventure story set in the Mayan civilization, "Apocalypto."
You "guarantee" that more than $100 million has been spent on advertising Brokeback? Do you work in the film distribution business? Back up your assertions with facts. I have seen several "estimates" on marketing costs for the film, ranging from $15 millon to $40 million - but none of them are from Focus Features.
Good luck getting the promotional budget. Promotion is ongoing as the film moves through the various distribution channels and lasts until the film ends up on the late, late show.
All of that falls under the rubric of "entertainment"----ergo Hollywood.
Museums, too? They're Hollywood?
Can't you just feel Hollywood's "tolerance and compassion?"............LOL.
