The divide between conservative and liberal America was on full display at the Oscars, with both the winners and losers championing social and political topics heralded by the left.
Across the United States, in blogs and on call-in radio talk shows, conservatives seethed that their point of view was not represented in the choice films honored with nominations -- let alone among those given awards.
"This year's Oscar nominees include stories of homosexual sheep herders, a transvestite and Japanese prostitutes," ...
American conservatives are accustomed to frowning at liberal Hollywood, but they were more disaffected than ever by the left-of-center themes of this year's Oscar nominees.
the conservative Concerned Women for America (CWA)...complained that the few Hollywood films it approved of had loads of popular appeal and impressive box office, but "got the cold shoulder from Hollywood elitists."
Conservative America long has been at odds with liberal Tinseltown, championing films with religious overtones like the blockbuster "Passion of the Christ," which was snubbed at the 2004 Oscars.
This year another hit with Christian overtones was the film "The Chronicles of Narnia...which has raked in more than 637 million dollars in ticket receipts around the world...
Narnia's ticket sales nearly equaled those of the five best picture Oscar nominees combined.
"This year's anticipated Oscar-winning movies, reviewed in light of their box office appeal, reveal Hollywood's true motives.
They are far less concerned about entertaining people than they are with trying to shape the culture and advance a political agenda."
"If you want to be truly courageous and take actual risks then make a movie that gives conservatives a fair shake or, God forbid, make a movie where a Liberal is the bad guy."

Cinderella Man? Maybe because it's another Cinderella story (there's been a bunch of those), or because it's another boxing movie (had one of those last year, with a liberal twist) or maybe because it was another biopic and they weren't as interested in the guy. Also, it came out too early in the year, I think.
Walk the Line, while it was a biopic (like Capote), it shouldn't have had as many strikes against it as Cinderella Man might've had.
That said, a couple of Best Picture nominees have been told before and didn't need to be there again. And I still wonder how "Memoirs of a Gei sha", which plays to Hollywood's sensibilities, while also being a historical drama, was left out. Anti-Asian bias, maybe? (*)

(*)Some, but not a lot, of sarcasm in that last rhetorical comment.
Many of the leading stars of the World War II era served in the military, some, such as Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart, on the front lines. I suspect none of the present day crop of movie stars ever wore a military uniform in real life.
There have been left wingers and outright Communists in Hollywood from its inception. However, many prominent actors and even some superstars in pre-1960 Hollywood were staunch conservatives: Gary Cooper, Loretta Young, Adolph Menjou, John Wayne, Clark Gable, Walter Brennan, and Ward Bond to name a few. Unfortunately, those days are gone.
Dude, I was actually after a serious reply. I'm not sure what you mean:
There is a good definition of a liberal.
"The Oscars and other "award" shows reminds me of how we clap and praise our grandson's independent use of the toilet."
Do you mean that a liberal applauds mediocrity? or that a liberal dislikes the public adulation of a particular person/event/artform ala 'Tall poppy syndrome'
Neither of which answers my question.
Moore is nothing but a con artist. At the end of the day he fooled the idiot liberal Democrat scum, and filled his pockets. And....the gays have been had the same way with "Brokeback Mountain". The producers hyped the movie for gas, got every gay person to see it fifty times, upping the revenue (profit stream), and then at the eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute, "Hollywood" just about ignored the film totally at the Oscar Awards ceremony. A materful act by "Hollywood". But, take my word for it gay community is not happy about this!!!!
...refused to vote with our wallets.

Same here. We won't go if it's junk or if the stars are Bush or America bashers. Therefore, we see one movie about every 2 years or so. Last movie we saw was "Passion of the Christ".
Liberals set very low standards...if any. "It is all good."
For example, they advocate letting anyone get into college and then give 90 percent of the students an easy A grade. (Harvard and Yale to start)
They think that making students work for an education is bad. You know...homework, actually studying.
They accept a geography teacher to spend 80 percent of the class time on his personal rants. 20 percent on the actual topic is ok with them.
They accept a masters degree from a no-name school to promote a fraud University professor to Tenure. His work consisted of copying others original scholarship and trying to pass it off as his own. Even after he was caught, the liberals rallied behind "free speech."
Personal responsibility has no meaning to a liberal.
Lest we forgot...phoney baloney Clooney made sure in his statement (speech) that Hollyweird would continue putting out their left leaning views until we "hayseeds" "get it."
Pitts off, George.
I'm not interested in a personal tirade either.
Condemning a group of people for no better reason than 'some of them do bad things' is destructive and morally contemptible. Do you want to live your life doing this? My advice is to change your ways.
Then you have your economic liberals. Also know as socialists.
They sit in the wagon watching us working folks pull the wagon. They are able to get out of the wagon and either walk on their own and/or help us pull the wagon. But no.
Then, these economic liberals complain that we are not pulling the wagon fast enough.
One example...Liberal charitable acts consist of stealing conservatives' tax dollars and spending the money on liberal causes.
John "Frugal" Kerry married two wealthy women with huge trust funds. Before he was running for President, he gave either nothing or next to nothing to any charity. But he voted for us to have higher tax rates, so that our hard earned money could go to his causes.
Liberals have no sense of personal responsibility.
The oscars proved what a freakshow hollywood is. Let's see, they had queer cowboys, transgendered freaks, terrorists, pimps and prostitutes, racists......did I miss anything???? What, no peddos???
Maybe next year they'll perform a live partial birth abortion and George Clooney can strap on a suicide vest and blow his sorry arse to kingdom come.
Bunch of effing freaks!!
Gimme "The Bushido Blade" any Dirty Harry movie and a James Bond marathon and I am set.
I have come to the conclusion that Follywood is no different than the MSM or other liberal corporations.
The management makes all the money and their minions spew out Marxist nonsense to keep the small base coming back for more.
A film producer rarely if ever loses money. It's the theatres that take a beating, which explains why you pay 12 dollars for a bag of juji fruits and a small coke.
Call it the plantation mentality. Pinch Salzbergers paper lost millions and he took a 1 mil bonus while his little Stalins spewed out trash that only the base reads.
I'm sure your overall argument is something like 'Liberals are bad republicans are good'.
Unfortunately I can state the opposite case giving millions of examples for either side so your examples dont add up to squat. Whats driving this inherent dislike? did you grow up with it? From my point of view its the same form of argument people use to justify racism.
Damn, that's bang on, man. Last night I was discussing morality with a Canuck Liberal and his basic MO was that we shouldn't set moral standards because everyone has a different definition of morality. Talking out of their arsehole seems to be the common ground between Libs and Dems.
Corbs sounds like he needs to get zotted.
