AND YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS IS?
Let's see how New Jersey is doing today protecting our right to free speech. Oh, here we go! It would seem that NJ Assemblyman Peter J. Biondi has introduced a bill in the New Jersey legislature that would require anyone who posts a message on an Internet chat room or bulletin board to identify themselves with a legal name and address. My guess would be that Peter Biondi has read some posts about him that upset him ... and he wants that nonsense to stop! What's next? I'll bet that Peter Biondi is working on a bill right now that would require that anyone offering email services over the internet demand and require that all people who send email messages identify themselves with a legal name and address. Mr. Biondi evidently does not believe that freedom of speech means that you have the right to express an opinion anonymously. Thanks to the Drudge Report, here's a link to Biondi's legislation. Biondi, by the way, is a Republican.
Someone needs to beat Peter J. Biondi with a hardbound copy of the Constitution until he apologizes for his rampant stupidity.
My thought is that this may have been a bill to combat sexual predators on MySpace.com. Unfortunately, Mr. Biondi probably doesn't think of all the other ramifications of his proposal.......
Bondi is a cross dresser.
I agree. BTW, I heard Biondi's mother wears Army boots. ;-)

I doubt if this stands if passed.
I thought this thread was going to be about buying batteries at Radio Shack.
My understanding is, that you would just have to type in a name and address when registering.

He is GOP, I am sorry to say.
Usenet forums and similar forums are so informative and so interesting. I have learned about computers and using them from Windows 3.1 up to Windows XP64 via forums. Hardware forums have helped me build several desktops and then trouble shoot them.
The posters I've learned from would have never been so forth coming had they been required to give their name and addresses. They would have feared a spam and bulk mail overload from capture bots.
Abusive posters on any forum can be banned or tracked down from IP addresses. Why make the rest of us go through a background check if we aren't the problem?

I'm sure he's well aware of the law of unintended consequences. That's what makes his proposal even more evil. Every new law dealing with surveillance or identification is touted as combating sexual predators, terrorists, "drunk drivers," "deadbeat dads," or any other bogeyman of the day. Shouldn't actual criminals be the ones to lose their freedoms, and not everyone else? I'm almost certain Mr. Biondi is aware of this, but casts a wide net anyway because whether or not the law passes, he knows he'll get away with proposing it.
Is this guy senile or is this par for the course with him?
My bet is that Biondi doesn't understand the internet or related technologies.
How do we know you aren't the problem, citizen?
