Hispanics can be of any race; most Hispanics in the U.S. are either part Indian (mestizo) or part black (mulatto) or in some cases part Indian and part black, and there are even Hispanics of Asian descent (quite a few Asians migrated to Panama, Peru and neighboring countries a few decades ago). The Census Bureau (correctly) does not list Hispanic as a race, and most Hispanics list either white or "some other race" in their Census forms. But when this article refers to "whites" it is referring to non-Hispanic whites, sometimes known as "Anglos."
Battles in Europe have been fought over pigs. You can find examples of many "odd wars" in every civilization.
Arabs may have their flaws, but if I were to ban every ethnic group that I found even moderately distasteful (there are none that I hate), this country would lose at least 60% of its inhabitants (and the NYPD would be forced to recruit from the West Indies). ;-)

Well, from what I have seen in Miami and NYC, most white Latinos tend to be disproportionately represented in the professions and in business. Many are themselves or are the children of the affluent classes of Colombia, Cuba, Venezuela, etc.
Put a wealthy Venezuelan in a room with upper class white Americans and a group of Nuyoricans and Dominicanyorks, and you will see that they will associate with the former.

I can't wait to leave LI. The racial steering was blatant as it could get when my mom went to get a house and they were urging her to move to the blackest areas of Nassau County. Forget about moving into places like Levittown and East Meadow. They barely let asians in BUT it's all about hate for black people as it always was.

If Hispanics are ordinary whites (and 10-30% of many Latin American countries are) they tend to blend right into the general US white population without any difficulty, other than people tripping over the correct pronunciation of names like Alex Caballero, a kid at my high school.
In fact, most of these white Hispanics I've met want nothing to do with the Hispanic grievance class, which is a union mainly of Mexicans, Dominicans, and Puerto Ricans. Many openly speak down about the Mestizo, Indian and Mullato Hispanics, and joke about how Mexico and other countries are sending the worst trash out of their gutters to the US every year through illegal immigration. They are far more sanguine about what is going on than a typical politically correct American.
Would this mean whites could call themselves a "minority"? Nah. That's another word that is owned by the other races, and whites aren't allowed to use.
What this WHOLE debate about who is white and who isn't is all about not being considered black and all that comes along with that. I am sorry to say that living where I live many of the Salvadoreans don't like black people and want the white priviledge. They don't want to be white, just want what white people have. I remember this guy was trying to hit on me constantly well that all ended abruptly when he saw my mother (thankfully!). He was even darker than me go figure BUT because he had some light eyes somehow that made him as white as Rutger Hauer.

Most Mexican (mestizo) immigrants aren't Hispanics, but they are categorized as such. They aren't "white" either.
As far as PR is concerned, I've seen demographic/biological data that shows that 60% of Boricua are "of color." Judging from the folks that I've met on the island or on the mainland, that sounds about right. The average Puerto Rican has more European blood than African blood (unlike Dominicans, who generally are the reverse), but, nonetheless, about 40% can be characterized as "pure white" according to most studies I have seen on the island.
Levittown and East Meadow can only remain so white for so long. Within 10-15 years, the iron curtain will fall. Mark my words.
Hello!! Detroit is a "large metropolitan area" (6th largest in the country). Whites have been a minority in Detroit for over 20 years. I know it's hard for New Yorkers to understand that everything west of the Hudson River is not the "wild west", but Detroit is definitely outside the South and West!
