WASHINGTON, March 3 (UPI) -- The approximately 11 million illegal immigrants in the United States have increasingly come under fire for straining the nation's healthcare safety net.
At a recent meeting In Washington, D.C., state governors cited healthcare costs in urging the Bush administration to crack down on illegal immigration.
But states have already started acting on their own behalf.
In 2005, 20 states introduced 80 bills to limit access to health services for non-citizens or require that providers inform authorities about patients who have violated immigration laws.
Over the next four years, the federal government has pledged to spend $1 billion to reimburse hospitals for the cost of caring for immigrants who are unable to pay, and the cost of social services has figured heavily in debates about tough new federal legislation to crack down on those who come to the United States illegally.
Proponents of limits say they are necessary to keep illegal immigrants from draining resources, while those opposed say they will impose burdens on people who are trying to live the American dream.

OH YEAH! AND LETS NOT WORRY ABOUT THE BURDENS PLACED ON CITIZENS BY ILLEGALS BEING HERE! Lets not worry about those of us tax paying citizens who have lost their health insurance and can't afford to buy their own because the costs have sky rocketed by the industry trying to off set the cost of treating illegals!!
What about Me??! What about MY KIDS???
Sheesh! It drives me INSANE that these bleeding hearts would rather protect the illegals but refuse to note that there are many many families in this country who are suffering the consequenses and no one gives a rip!

I read the article. La Raza supports the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bill. Big surprise.
You know what? If your first act in coming to America was an illegal one, YOU DON'T GET TO LIVE THE AMERICAN DREAM
**
That's right! If you are not here legally, you are not an American and you have no right to the American dream.
Shoot, I was just at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS 2 hours ago and I'd bet only half the people I wandered past were speaking English!
I don't have health insurance. I set aside money, and when I need to visit the doctor I get a self-pay discount. Insurance is best in re hospitalization.
Instead of living the American dream, the illegals are giving us the American nightmare, while politicians -- with VERY few exceptions -- stand back.

Sadly, you are right.
I used to donate to the Republican Party, but, now, every time I get a fund-raising letter from them, I send a note back telling them that I will start donating again when the borders have been secured.
These people that claim to care so much for the illegals should spend their time and energy on efforts to help those people turn their own countries into better places to live. Mexico, for example, is rich in natural resources. Given the amount of fossil fuel sold by Mexico, the only reason that anyone there is poor is because of the corruption in the government that keeps the people from getting their fair share.

duh!
Not only will most illegals not pay, they invariably find their way to the Social Work office at the hospital where they obtain vouchers for free cafeteria meals, parking, bus tokens, and other goodies, including free clothing! Free everything.
And why is our Goverment we pay for reimbursing for the costs of illegals when they should be using that money to fix the friggin broken borders. That's our money they are spending on pampering illegals!
