Protests are planned for Monday in the same area of campus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where, authorities said, a former student plowed a sport utility vehicle into nine people Friday afternoon.
The College Republicans, Americans for an Informed Democracy and the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies are sponsoring the event, scheduled for 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Monday in "The Pit," a central area of the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
Police said Mohammad Taheri-azar, a 2005 UNC-Chapel Hill graduate, admits he acted to "avenge the death of Muslims around the world." UNC police and local authorities, however, say they have not taken a stance on that interpretation, but are simply repeating what the suspect has told them.
UNC-Chapel Hill student leaders said that Monday's protest is aimed at the reluctance of the university to label Friday's incident as an act of terrorism.
"This is innocent people being attacked by an SUV, driven by a man who was doing it for retaliation for treatment of Muslims around the world," said Jillian Bandes, with the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies. "To me, that spells terrorism."
Taheri-azar, who is currently in Raleigh's Central Prison under a $5.5 million bond, is charged with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.
Because of what Taheri-azar admitted to local authorities, the FBI is also participating in the investigation. FBI spokesman Ken Lucas said Sunday, however, that a federal investigation is still ongoing.

Have you noticed they never call the Church of the Annunciation "One of Christianity's Holiest Sites?" I heard someone say that the first day, then after it was "an important shrine", "A famous Christian church", anything but "Holy." Guess Holy is a fightin' word these days.
Sounded like Jillian was on our side, but her phrasing was unfortunate.
ping!
Talk to OU students about the Hinrich incident. They all agree that the FBI, ATF, and OU President (and ex Senate Intel member) David Borum have thoroughly covered up the botched terrorist attack.
BTW CAIR was on the scene ASAP to protect all islamic rights, to cover-up Hinrich being a moslem convert, his association with the same mosque used by Atta. And finally, they freed Hinrich's Paki roommate that happened to share an apartment that was loaded with explosives, according to local police that were first on the scene (later that story disappeared and was denied to exist).
Now the UNC says this guy is not a terrorist. And here come the FBI to investigate the possible link (or clean up the place).
Remember Able Danger folks. Remember Able Danger.

dream on
In point of fact, the Black Students Union was holding an event in The Pit at the time. Something about campaign speeches for their group's upcoming elections. Given that, I would imagine there were a pretty fair number of black students there.

My bad-I'm kinda funny that way.
hopefully he didn't forget the obligatory "ALLAH AKBAR!"
before running people down...
"The BSU was holding an event in The Pit at the time..."I heard that too.Have you heard anything more?Could this guy have had a problem with the BSU?
What were the Administration's, whatever Muslim orgs on campus and the radical student organizations views on the Boycott Israel, et al and anything Jeewisssh or Anti-Israel before and what are they now that one of their "brothers" has done his best for harmony, peace and respect?
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere except the original report in the Daily Tarheel. It just disappeared.
No, Sir.
"Holy" is a term used by the CNN, NYT, Charlotte Observer, MSNBC, etc only for the Mohammedans.
To use the word "Holy" reference anything Christian, would be in violation of the MSM's allegiance to the "Destroy Christianity" crowd.

The WRAL link on the other thread has an update to include this:
The Raleigh Islamic Center and UNC's Muslim Student Association condemn Taheri-azar's actions.
Sorry, he was motivated by us serving out justice in Iraq, and he did so by attempting to kill American citizens at home...uh, he's a terrorist...so was the DC Sniper Duo, but we musn't scare the sheeple, and the Ivory Tower crowd cannnot imagine they might be the target of any kind of terrorism. They think their tolerance will spare them? What was that comment that Lenin said? "The Capitalists will sell us the rope that we will use to hang them". We're doing this with Islam folks.
It was nothing more than an individual act by a nut case.
A nut case motivated by a religious ideology of conquest by violence, namely Islam.
A motivation, by the way, it would seem in the violent acts of many nut cases, singly and in groups, around the world.
"The Capitalists will sell us the rope that we will use to hang them". We're doing this with Islam folks.
