Troops are urged to avoid theaters with Turkish film Army says Kurtlar Vadisi Irak depicts GIs as indiscriminate killers
A woman stands next to a billboard featuring the new Turkish movie Valley of the Wolves Iraq in Istanbul, Turkey. Tickets for the movie, the latest of a genre of pop culture works feeding off growing anti-American sentiment in Turkey, are selling out across the country.
Soldiers in Europe have been advised to avoid movie theaters showing a new Turkish film that depicts U.S. soldiers as indiscriminate killers of Iraqis, according to an Army communication circulated last week.
In a message sent to troops at U.S. Army Garrison Hohenfels in eastern Germany on Friday, Army officials ask troops to steer clear of anything that looks like a protest at theaters showing the film Kurtlar Vadisi Irak (The Valley of the Wolves Iraq) and to avoid discussions about the movie.
Force protection advice is to avoid theaters or movie plexes showing the film and to avoid getting into discussions about the movie with persons you dont know, the advisement reads.
The Hohenfels notice was a copy of a memo sent to all U.S. Army Europe bases last week warning that the film was due for European release early this month, said U.S. Army Europe spokesman Bob Purtiman.
The movie is reportedly one of the biggest-budget pictures to come out of Turkey to date, and shows scenes of American troops firing on civilians at a wedding in northern Iraq, according to the films Web site. The movie begins with a portrayal of a real event in 2003, when U.S. soldiers mistakenly arrested 11 Turkish commandos in northern Iraq, sparking a brief diplomatic clash between the U.S. and Turkey.

These Middle Eastern types seem to be focused on executing wedding guests ~ they do that don't they?
Those Hollywood jerks who participated in this anti-American propaganda have a lot to answer for!
"Joey, have you ever been inside a Turkish prison?"
There was a 1200 yr old Shrine-Mosque that was blown up in Samarra a month ago. The rumor spread that it was CIA. This film has the exact scene, and it really spells trouble for our troops.
I agree what they did was worse than what Jason Isaacs did in Patriot, where he based his character on a SS eisengruppen commander.
Joking apart any American actor who took part in that Turkish film should be forced to publicly apologies for what is a disgusting piece of propaganda.
A hundred times worse than patriot which I found quite boring apart from when the colonel run his sword through Mel Gibson's son, I enjoyed that bit.
This Muslim hate film is very popular in Turkey, which is supposed to be "moderate" Islamic state. Apparently, even the moderate Muslims are filled with hate.
Sadly the Turks are no longer our friends.
I lived in Izmir in the 60s as a NATO dependent - and while the Turks were sort of floundering between civilization and their wild 'Taras Bulba' roots, they were a reliable ally to the US.
Since their refusal to cooperate with us during our invasion of Iraq, they have fallen into the dung pile of history, in my opinion.
As I said once before, Attaturk would be NOT be proud of his people today.
Tony, Tony, Tony - let it go. The King at the time was
German for God's sake. and Lord North wasn't a Gladstone.
Why I have to have a bit of fun and as much as I like and admire Americans, you cant tell me to stop having fun and winding them up. By insulting Patriot.
Got to have some fun out of life
Tony,
Good to see ya back with us. How's the family?
O.K. I must have missed that....how did he base his charachter on an SS officer? It has been a while since I have seen the movie, but I would describe it as loosely accurate. The British were known to kill traitors to the crown and burn property used by said traitors. The last battle was very accurate to the battle of Cowpens, however they didn't use the name. Does someone have to drag a NAZI into every thread? lol!
Why was that a mistake? What business did Turkish commandos have in Iraq?
