Ex-president Bill Clinton said Sunday that the Bush administration has not done enough to increase port security since the 9/11 attacks, calling the oversight unbelievable.
Addressing the Centennial Celebration at Pace University in New York, Clinton complained:
"I still really can't believe we only check five percent of our containers at all the ports in America when we've had now for four years a study saying that unless we do ten to twenty percent, there's no deterrent effect at all. "
The former president made no mention of his own role advising a Dubai company on how to overcome American opposition to its purchase of operations at several U.S. ports - a move Congressional critics, including his wife, have called a national security risk.
Instead, Mr. Clinton stuck to more general national security themes, telling the Pace audience: "It's important to increase our efforts to reduce the threat of chemical, biological and nuclear substances being in the wrong hands . . . . It's important to increase homeland security."
And spare us all.
What will Poppy say?
LOL!!! The very same thought crossed my mind!
ROTFLOL! :o\
This is the same person who sold military secrets to China and ignored OBL even after repeated attacks on American troops and diplomatic missions.
The Clintons' role in this port deal should be exposed to the public. I have sent a letter to the editor of my local newspaper discussing these contradictions in the Clintons' stances. Hope it gets published.
Oops! Billy boy should read that thread from yesterday, stating that we check 100% of at risk containers, at the point of origin.
The 5% thing is an MSM myth.
The irony will be when the Senator runs her election around The Myth.
If she wins, we'll be in more danger than ever.
Securing U.S. Ports (we are screening 100% of shipping containers)
"Deterrent effect" is a law enforcement term, indicating that at a certain level of enforcement, generally law-abiding people will not be tempted to break the law, and non-law-abiding people will desist from breaking the law in a particular way for fear of capture.
It has no place in the lexicon of the war on terror, because you don't "deter" terrorists, who are willing to give up their lives and have no respect for laws.
Surely Clinton must also know that we don't randomly search 5% in the hopes that scares the terrorists that we might catch them. We search the 5% that are most likely to contain terrorist contraband, based I have to assume on a smart selection profiling process.
Meanwhile, we do non-invasive inspections on 100% of the containers shipped to this country -- the 5% is equivalent to the full-body searches we subject a few people to at the airports.
I actually DO get more upset when a former president plays politics, because they KNOW what it takes to protect this country, and to undermine that for political reasons cheapens the presidency and puts our country in danger.
OPINION: Frankly sir, BJ knows nothing about security.
BJ specializes in BS and CYA.
Period.
-E.O.M.-
"he's back to campaigning for her"
Of course, he is a loving, devoted husband, what else would he do??
The Bush administration is foolish if they don't come back with a quick one-two punch and KO this s.o.b. They've got the goods on Bill and Hillary and its high time they get into an offensive mode and engage the damn fight.
Memo to slick willie: STFU! Get OFF the stage, and take Peanut-brain with you!
LOL...Well said.
THE CLINTON DOCTRINE: Ready, fire, aim....ops, you can't leave with that dress.
This is sort of like Clinton lecturing a dog in heat. Like he has any moral standing whatsoever to do so.
Bush may need a talking to once in a while, but Clinton has forfeited any chance of it ever being him.
Hey Bill, thanks for taking Laden into custody bud. We're deeply indebted to you... for screwing this nation into the ground without getting your just rewards.
Will you settle for giving him cabfare to the Free Clinic?
