Putin calls George W. Bush to discuss Hamas, Iran nuclear crisis

MOSCOW (AP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin called U.S. President George W. Bush on Saturday to discuss Russia's talks with the radical Palestinian movement Hamas and negotiations on Iran's disputed nuclear program, the Kremlin said.
"Putin and Bush agreed to continue co-ordination on this and other vital issues on the international agenda including the forthcoming visit of the Russian foreign minister to Washington," the Kremlin press service said in a brief statement.
It said that Putin had initiated the call.
Moscow hosted both the top Iranian nuclear negotiator and a high-level delegation from Hamas this past week, saying it was hoping to use its access to such internationally isolated interlocutors to advance positions already agreed with its Western partners.
Moscow made a last-ditch effort to get Tehran to agree to end uranium enrichment in exchange for creation of a joint enrichment facility in Russia, and Putin invited Hamas to Moscow to coax it away from policies that have kept the group in international isolation.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov heads to Washington on Monday for talks with Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other officials.
Lavrov's trip comes as U.S. officials have become increasingly open in their criticism of Russia's democratic credentials and Moscow's use of political and economic pressure on former Soviet republics such as Georgia and Ukraine. The close partnership Bush and Putin forged after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks has faded amid the continuing disagreements.

I think it's interesting he called. Lavrov's visit has been reported for the last several days.
Maybe he called to tell Bush that all the Hamas members have bees in their bonnets and Lavrov will fill them in when he gets to Washington.

Putin is like the proverbial career criminal. Only through wrongdoing can he gain prominence.
Putin cuddles an anti-Isarael axis of evil; Putin becomes a big man in global politics; all of this on the backs of the innocent murdered by suicide bombers and threatened by Mahmud.

Putin is steaming over the fact that we want to sell massive amounts of weapons to India, ones better than the Russians are willing to provide them. Putin is also urked that the deal has ticked off China. This could mean that Russia may start arming Pakistan with the Chinese.
