Ports Deal Faces Wide Opposition. Bush ratings sink (Another MSM biased poll, oversampling Dems)

And, in a trend that could affect turnout in the November midterm elections, Bush confronts what might be called an intensity gap: The percentage of Americans who said they strongly disapproved of his performance on a wide range of issues greatly exceeded the share who strongly approved.

The Times/Bloomberg poll, supervised by Times Poll Director Susan Pinkus, surveyed 1,273 adults nationwide from Saturday through Wednesday. The survey has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Contributing to the fall in Bush's approval rating since January was a slight increase in the new poll in the number of respondents who identified themselves as Democrats.

"Party identification is a dynamic variable that changes with the popularity of the party in control," Pinkus said. "The proportion of people who identified with the Republican Party was higher when Bush had more positive approval ratings."

This article doesn't even mention it, but another does, at the very end, how many Dems, R, & I-s were polled:

"Of the poll of 1,273 adults, 35 percent were Democrats, 26 percent independents and 25 percent Republicans. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. "

On Election Day in 2004, the voter breakdown was:

37 percent GOP, 37 percent Democrat, 26 percent independent

And note that 88% of the Dems disapprove, so you can see how oversampling them can skew the poll tremendously.

The MSM found a new way to bring down Bush's ratings, if they still couldn't do it by bashing him 24/7, then they do it by oversampling Dems and NOT adjusting for it in their poll. The adjusted for sex, race, etc, but not for voter registration demographics.

Detailed poll results (in pdf)

I think we need to keep pointing out the bias, because the MSM has the headline of "Bush approval slipping", etc. and the barely mention it in the article of not mentioning at all, how they got the approval rating. We need to educate people about this.

My guess is that the people who disapprove of his handling of the economy couldn't come within 5 quarters of how many consecutive we've seen with positive growth.

That said, the budget is completely FUBAR.

That said the budget is completely fubar.

You and I probably disagree who to blame for that but I agree completely. Budget is broken, where is the courage to fix it?

Do you remember how the moron media used to cover Clinton's visits overseas -- seemed like 24/7 covering every last detail. President Bush is making historic visits and our media is essentially ignoring.

I still think when the facts come out on the port deal there is going to be a lot of egg on faces!

Now liberals, their media whores, and the fringe faction of conservatives should wish very hard that we do not capture Bin Laden or Zawahiri or Zarqawi before the 2006 elections because all their delusions about the end of President Bush and about democrats taking control of Congress will be destroyed yet again.

37% on the economy? How come the media hasn't been giving any good stories about the economy? DJIA 11,021.59, 4.7% unemployment, low inflation... hmm

A constant stream of bad news can drive opinion...

Libs KNOW this, that's why every single one of these orgs is using biased polls to CREATE news, instead of reporting it...

The REALITY is that the pols and others get UNBIASED POLLING, and they realize just how bad it's looking for the DEMS in November...

Unless they can Nationalize the Hate-Bush movement, they are TOAST in the Mid-terms, hence the polling that keeps getting Moore and Moore biased...

For your enjoyment. My Email to the Junk Journalists, Radio Hosts and other moronic talking heads.

To Whom it may Concern:

Ok Time AGAIN, for the facts. You can get the information on Container Security from either the Coast Guard or DHS websites. We scan 100% of the containers coming into the US for radiation all ready. That information has been pointed out to the critics repeatedly. We ONLY NEED to physically inspect about 6% of Containers because of security concerns. It is fraudulent to claim we "only search 3-6% of containers. IF we needed to, we could search more.

The Terminal Operator controls NOTHING about the shipment. The Manifest are controlled BY THE SHIPPER as well as the RECEIVER and must go thru Customs. The level of RABID ignorance here is simply inexcusable. The United States is giving NOTHING away. Two weeks into this story it is utterly inexcusable for anyone to be this rabidly ignorant. Here are the facts. A PRIVATE company, P&O is selling it Port Terminal Operations. A company Called Dubai Port World is BUYING that private company. Part of what they are acquiring is 9 terminal leases, out of 300, in 6 US Ports. 9 out of 300 GET IT? The US Govt is giving NOTHING away. They have NOTHING to do with the deal. They CANNOT require the leases be granted to some other company. All they can do is REJECT this or that company from getting the leases. Then P&O would either have to find a different buyer OR Dubai Port World will simply sue. Either way, the same American Dock Workers, the same American Clerks, Truck Drivers, Gate Guards, Office Workers, Cleaning Crews etc etc etc etc who NOW work of P&O will switch to getting their checks from Dubai Port World. Some Stock Holders and upper level management will change. The name on the outside of the building will change, the Labor Unions will have to negotiate new contracts (which is why they do NOT want this deal to go thru) and that is about ALL that will change.

No misstatements, distortions and lies about "Running our Port" "Compromising Port Security", "Access to Sensitive Military Cargo Shipments" or any of the other utterly stupid nonsense being spewed by the critics is going to change the FACTS. Those are the FACTS. That is not White House Spin, RNC Talking Points and all the other stupid nonsense being screamed to drown out the FACTS. Time for people to grow up and LEARN the facts. How can people capable of using a computer be so utterly IGNORANT of the facts of this matter after 2 weeks? There must be a genetic element. Some Invincible Stupidity Shield gene that keeps people from being able to absorb even ONE fact about this topic. The display of panic, hysteric, bigotry and ignorance on the part of some of the Port Deal Hysterics is inexcusable.

Because it would mess up their low poll numbers they keep shoving down our throats

Many in the media/press don't give a dang about the news

It's all about making Bush look bad

Maybe some day they will realize the Bush and Cheney aren't running for reelection

Besides the number of people polled from each party, there is another factor that needs to be considered here. Polls are usually done between 10am and 2pm. Who is home to answer the phone during these hours?

Good post Johnnie, but they just don't care.

They are still under the delusion that they still can control the outcome of public opinion. They know good and well that they are lying.

they are like the Muslim religion that believes a lie to an infidel is not a lie. It merely advances their ideology and is somehow justified by their twisted logic. They also believe that the public is ignorant and is unable to see the truth.

Their Arrogance has blinded their ability for insight, to see that things have reversed in the arena of public opinion since the mid '90's.

What a total joke. Once again, another rigged poll that has a 10 point differential between Republicans and Democrats, the actual numbers being more like 35% Dem., 33% GOP. The last national election in 2004 had 37% Dem, 37% Republican. If this poll used either of those numbers to establish their party I.D. weights, Bush's approval in this poll would be closer to around 47%. Not great, but not 39% either. Shameful, totally shameful. This is more news creation from the Bush haters in the MSM, just like the Katrina video lies.
