Agreed. He had to have come in from behind the Davis Library. That's the closest access point.
From South St; and 'up-the-steps' doesn't make sense even for a landrover. Adds to the probability, this was a thought out, malicious act. You can't wind up there in a car, by accident.
Incidentally this area, and some of these buildings off the Pit, was the center of which the movie "Patch Adams" was filmed. (The daughter is a UNC grad, and world famous UNC tour guide.
Off to the left is the 'Dey' (pronouced "Die") building. Kids would always draw a chalk outline of a body in a murder scene outside of Dey, with the words: "Dey, scum, Dey"
Freaked the visiting parents out big time.
As an NCSU grad I could not agree with you more...
Accido, ergo sum.
LOL!!
Joe, I don't think you can call your Cherokee that anymore...It's a Jeep Grand Native American.....
NBC Nightly News: Katrina, Global Warming, Blackberry, and Unaffordable Homes. Nada on this story.
Its tougher than it looks to get up. You have some massive steps to get up and its surronded by buildings. There is only one way I can think of to get in and it isn't easy. I don't think he went into the actual pit itself though. Could you drive a truck out of the pit? Its recessed several feet. I'd imagine he just mowed down people in the area around it.
Attended myself three years before I changed my major. I was in the school of LEB (Left Engineering for Business). Deciding right now where to attend for a post graduate degree. Being as close to Carolina as I am makes it very tempting but I just know if I can make myself do it....
Absolutely!
If a person unfamiliar looked casually at this, he just could not imagine what an obvious ASSAULT this was (as the police are charging).
This is THE outdoor spot where students longue about between classes on nice days....not a place you could run into with a car because a bug flew in your eye! This was attempted murder.
I just learned about this a few minutes ago. As it happens, I just watched CBS Evening News where, of course, it did not appear. UNC has had cartoon controversy. Now Mohammed deliberately (by numerous accoutns) launches a murder attempt by vehicle against relaxing students.
Oh yea....it wouldn't be news on C-BS because it doesn't insult the president.
Campus police said Taheriazar used an area designed to give access to Lenoir Hall to work his way to the Pit. Coming from the parking lots in the north side of Davis Library, a car could travel down the side of the cafeteria and end up in the Pit from there. Normally, there are barricades up but on Friday, they were not in place.

Authorities told NBC-17 Taheriazar made a comment while he was being taken into custody which prompted police to rush to University Commons Apartment Complex off of Smith Level Road. Tehar
Police, SWAT teams and fire departments have swarmed the complex. Capt. Joel Booker, of the Carrboro Police Department, told NBC-17 authorities have not entered Taheriazar's apartment. They are apparently waiting on legal permission to do so.
Taheriazar lives in Apt. D34 in the complex with two roommates. One of the roommates is a UNC student, the other attends a local community college. Authorities have contacted one of the roommates, but are still searching for the other.

(03/03/06 -- CHAPEL HILL) - The driver of an SUV that plowed into a group of pedestrians at UNC-Chapel Hill on Friday told police it was retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, according to ABC News.

Sources say Taheriazar told police he was seeking retribution for the treatment of Muslims around the world, according to ABC News justice correspondent Pierre Thomas. Taheriazar apparently told police he tried to rent the biggest SUV he could find to use in the attack.

How has this story died???
This is an attempted multiple murder by a (probably free-lance) Muslim terrorist. Link says perp has told police that he did it because of Muslim mistreatment worldwide.
This was done at a school very recently imbroiled in the cartoon controversy.
This is a BIG story (but I guess we have to wait for the MSM to notice).

I did a Google for it...seems to be a lot of coverage and I can NOT believe I'm (sorta) defending the MSM.
I'll go wash my eyes out w/lye ...
Thanks. I guess I am just exasperated because I am behind the curve on this. But I didn't see it on CBS (6 hours after it happened and although it was covered by local CBS affiliate, which I wasn't watching) and I wasn't see much posting activity.
While composing this post I just heard a laughably ho-hum report on local radio, a few lines not leading their newscast.
ABC News is reporting the perp did this as revenge 'for treatment of all muslims worldwide'....
From the News & Observer:
According to the Associated Press, the FBI joined the case because Taheri-azar, a native of Iran, "allegedly made statements that he acted to avenge the American treatment of Muslims. The ongoing investigation will work to confirm this," said Special Agent Richard Kolko, an FBI spokesman in Washington.
Must have had the operation before he went to college.
I did a Google search of the news for UNC-Chapel Hill.
I got 178 hits.
90 percent said the SUV did it.
2 percent said Muslim in the headline.
So, see you can trust the media. But don't worry, if Muslims are threating the press, they won't buckle. Yup.
TROP strikes again.
I wonder if he shaved his whole body?
