Al-Qa'eda Has Moved Into West Bank and Gaza, Admits Abbas
London Telegraph ^ | March 3, 2006 | Harry de Quetteville

Posted on 03/03/2006 2:29:53 AM PST by John W

Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, has warned that al-Qa'eda has infiltrated the West Bank and Gaza, from where it could launch "disastrous" attacks on Israel and its neighbours.

Israeli army officers and intelligence analysts have already warned several times over the last year that al-Qa'eda has established cells in the Palestinian territories - a claim that the Palestinians have denied.

But in an interview with al Hayat, an Arabic language newspaper, Mr Abbas admitted yesterday that Palestinian security forces have picked up traces of al-Qa'eda operatives.

"We have indications about the presence of al-Qa'eda in Gaza and the West Bank. This is intelligence information," he said.

Mr Abbas told the paper that he had received the latest information during a briefing at the beginning of this week, but that the security forces under his control "have not yet reached the point of arrests".

The revelation will underscore growing concern in Israel that al-Qa'eda and other hostile militants are surrounding the Jewish state.

Israel has previously warned that al-Qa'eda is active in neighbouring Jordan to the east, as well as in the Sinai peninsula under Egyptian control to the south.

To the north, the Israeli army also frequently clashes with Shia Hezbollah militants based in Lebanon. Al-Qa'eda is a largely Sunni Muslim group.

King Abdullah of Jordan has even declared that al-Qa'eda has infiltrated Israel itself.

"If they succeeded in infiltrating [the West Bank and Gaza] and if no one watches over them, the result could be disastrous for the entire region," Mr Abbas said.

The Israeli government, led by acting prime minister Ehud Olmert, has already dismissed the Palestinian authority as a "terrorist entity" after a landside victory for Hamas, a militant group, in legislative elections in January.

But it remains unclear to what extent Hamas might tolerate, or co-operate with, a separate extremist faction under foreign control, which was found to be operating on its turf.

THE COUNTERTERRORISM BLOG: "Al Qaeda's expansion in the Palestinian territories"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Another possible sign of Al Qaeda's expansion in the Palestinian territories has been revealed by the Emirati daily Al Ittihad. A so far unknown Palestinian group named " Jihad's Army and fight against corruption" (maybe sounding a little bit like an Al Qaeda offshoot) has been sending messages to foreign diplomatic representations in Gaza demanding that all personnel leave within a month. The communique calls for all non-Muslim foreigners to leave Gaza. It also denounces a Western style democracy on Muslim land and affirms its determination to impose sharia law.

Finally it mentions that a man like Saladeen, Ben Laden or Zarqawi is "on its way to Palestine to fight the symbols of corruption and the supporters of the infidels' democracy"."

"On new tape, Bin Laden's No. 2 congratulates Hamas"

Saturday, March 4, 2006 Posted: 2251 GMT (0651 HKT)

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "(CNN) -- In a videotape released Saturday, Osama bin Laden's deputy Ayman al-Zawahiri, complimented the Islamic militant group Hamas on its Palestinian election victory and spoke against published Prophet Mohammed cartoons that have sparked violence throughout the Muslim world.

The tape was released by the Arabic-language satellite television channel Al-Jazeera.

CNN could not immediately authenticate the recording, and it was unclear when it was made.

Al-Zawahiri was the target of an unsuccessful January 13 CIA airstrike on a home in Damadola, Pakistan, where al Qaeda members were thought to be attending a dinner.

The Egyptian doctor has released numerous taped messages in recent months."

"All the more reason to wipe out the area of Gaza."

I'm thinking a few well placed MOABs around each training camp would send a positive message. And screw the surgical strikes; only when the civilian population (if there really is any) starts to really, really suffer will they be possibly willing to come to their senses.

Unfortunately, Israel is still following the Roadmap to Suicide. They gave up Gaza as part of a way to win favor and recognition by "moderate" Arab regimes. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

"Unfortunately, Israel is still following the Roadmap to Suicide."

You are exactly right. 5000 more years of crap and terror lie ahead for the entire world. Until someone slaps these morons silly, we are doomed.

I like the idea of MOABS...perfect. The ones who don't die in the initial strike will be left permanently deaf.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Palestinian Authority security forces are investigating whether Iran, Hizbullah or al-Qaida are behind a new Shi'ite group that has been operating in the West Bank and Gaza Strip over the past few days.

Called the Higher Shi'ite Council, the group is headed by Muhammad Ghawanmeh, a former Islamic Jihad official from the West Bank. Ghawanmeh was close to Islamic Jihad secretary-general Fathi Shikaki, who was reportedly assassinated in Malta in 1996 by Mossad agents."

Here it all comes together; Hezbollah with the Palis with Al Qaeda.

...And my money says that Zarqawi has moved into lawless Southern Lebanon (Hezbollah's stomping grounds) to run this show.

Which may very well mean that our intel intercepts about the "Big Bang" are for an AQ operation in Lebanon or even Israel itself.

Meaning that the Samarra Mosque bombing was a known deal-breaker by Al Qaeda...used as a last resort to add enough noise in Iraq to cover AQ's move out.

The old bait and switch -- Arafat played this game for years. Presumably, Israel hasn't lost its mind and will reply in kind, only harder.

FROM WND'S JERUSALEM BUREAU
"Al-Qaida leader in Palestine soon to be revealed?
Terrorists' pamphlet demands non-Muslims vacate West Bank, Gaza"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "JERUSALEM – An al-Qaida leader as important as overall terror chief Osama bin Laden and the group's Iraq leader Abu Musab Zarqawi will soon reveal himself in the Palestinian territories and orchestrate local and global jihad from the area, according to a pamphlet distributed in the Gaza Strip and obtained by WorldNetDaily.

The pamphlet, signed by a group calling itself the Jaish al Jihad, or Army of Jihad, claimed to speak for al-Qaida. It warned all non-Muslims and foreign embassies to vacate the Palestinian areas within one month.

"Is there now among us a person like Saladin, like Sheik Osama bin Laden, like Abu Musab Zarqawi? The answer is yes. We have this man and he will appear with the help of Allah very soon on the land of Palestine," said the pamphlet, which was intercepted this week by the Palestinian General Intelligence after being circulated in southern Gaza.

The message continued: "We ask all foreigners who are not Muslims to leave our holy Islamic land. We will fight all those who do not believe that Allah is the one and only God. [We will fight] every government that will not apply the rules of Allah and Islam and that chooses to follow the rules of the West and the infidels that bring corruption to our lives and religion like prostitution, alcohol … and drugs."

The group threatened the Palestinian police and security services not to interrupt its planned activities, adding, "We will fight all the corrupted and unbelieving politicians. It will be a great war for the purity of the land of Islam and Palestine."

Ok, so now terrorists are blaming other terrorists for terrorism? the plot thickens.

They have to. If a large terrorist attack is conducted from out of Gaza now, with Hamas as part of the PA, it's no longer terrorism -- it's an act of war. They have to be able to blame somebody else

Let me guess: They first noticed Al Quaida presence during a terrorist jamboree?

"Hamas Militarizes Gaza; Sets Up Standing Army to Spread Jihad"
Arutz Sheva ^ | 3-4-06 | Scott Shiloh

Posted on 03/04/2006 4:58:50 PM PST by SJackson

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Hamas terror organization, which won control of the PA legislature in January elections, is setting up a standing army in Gaza based on its military wing, the Al-Kassam Brigades.

A senior official in the Hamas military, known by his nom de guerre, Abu Huzaifa, told the PA news agency, Duniya Alwatan, that since the disengagement, the Hamas has set up military bases in every city in Gaza. The bases have been training a new cadre of highly motivated fighters for the Jihad, or holy war against non Moslems, and in particular, against the Jewish state.

Recruits are sent to the camps for four months. The first month consists of basic training, and after that, recruits are taught more advanced military maneuvers.

More specifically, Abu Huzaifa said PA soldiers are taught a number of techniques including firing rifles, shooting Kassam rockets, crawling under fences, and climbing up and down buildings. The instructors are Hamas terrorists who received training abroad.

The goal, he said, was to turn the Al-Kassam Brigades into a full-fledged standing army. That army would be dedicated to eliminating Israel and replacing it with an Arab state ruled by the Hamas.

Abu Huzaifa said that military units were already working on developing more sophisticated rockets and explosive devices to advance the Jihad."
